Best E-commerce Platform and Host

Hi Everyone,

Thank you in advance for your help.

I am far from a newbie in online ventures, I have designed, implemented and run multiple very successful freebie sites hosted by HostGator and HostMonster.

My most success came from Designing and optimizing Landing pages, BLOG, FLOG (etc) CPA, CPL sites marketing via PPC and SEO advertising, however, My newest venture is becoming successful offline and it's time to expand to an e-commerce/online store, and I have zero experience with any of it.

I will have no problem marketing it but everything in this niche is new to me.

I have registered a domain on godaddy.com for 2 years, and from what I'm told I cannot move it for 60 days? ugh

Anyway, What is a powerful, user friendly platform that I would have no issues with, and a hosting provider to go toe in toe with it?

I'm shooting for a website similar to (lightinthebox(dot)com or dealsmachine(dot)com) except maybe with a more graphical, cleaner, nicer look.

I did design a site with wix but it appears I would have to pay for each app plugin to actually get a functioning site/cart/store?

Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
FOB

Seconded. A lot of our clients really enjoy using 3dCart and Bigcommerce - they're super user-friendly and easy to use, and they come with a lot of awesome features that are insanely helpful when it comes to eCommerce.

Something I'd recommend as you look for the best possible solution - make sure you put a good amount of importance on consumer reviews, but try to be extra sure that you're able to find ones coming from people who are selling in the same niche as you are.

      Hope this helps!

  • Magento is another great option, if you're adept at website design and development. I'd recommend checking out their Community option. Shopify is easily customizable, and from what I've seen from our customers who use it, their sites look awesome.

    Good luck!

Well I found a host that is compatible with pretty much any platform.

I was actually looking at opencart, zeuscart, oscommerce, and magento, but now I will consider shopify.

      Thanks guys!

    Look at Google Trends

Compare shopify, woocommerce, prestashop, bigcommerce, magento, opencart

This will show you where the rest of the world is generally heading

Magento had a head-start over all the others. It is a more complicated and extensible piece of software, but not necessarily easier to run.

If you have just some products, then Wordpress + woocommerce is a good enough cms for you.

If you have A LOT of products, go with Magento. Youll be glad you did.

    Hey There,

Shopify & Bluehost are both great options when creating a website. Of course I could as well rattle off many more that would offer the technology and all in 1 package you are looking for too!!!

    Thanks,

Hey friend, According to me WordPress and Magento are the best e-commerce platform. Wordpress is very easy to use with different features. If you are looking for attractive and beautiful design and template for your websites, then you should go for Wordpress. Thanks

Try Woocommerce is running as plugin on the WordPress platform which brings several important advantages. For example Woocommerce is often seen as the ideal basis for setting up a web store. When you lack the required experience with systems on the internet, it would be essential for you to be able to manage your web store as easy as possible. Well, this is now possible with Woocommerce. The simple management via the well-known WordPress control panel goes hand in hand with the many extensive possibilities of Woocommerce.

Fine, first of all my wishes for your new ecommerce site, most of the ecommerce entrepreneurs prefer to have some scripts for their sites and multilingual, multi currency support is more preferable.
Also Magento, Woocommerce are great option for such case, how ever i suggest you to use some custom ecommerce scripts for better performace of your site.
    All the best!..

I don't want to make negative comments about the shopping carts I've tried. But if you PM me, I'll talk to you about the two I have experience with, plus the one I had a trial account with and the one I think is currently most promising.

These are all ecommerce platforms hosted by someone else. I wouldn't want to try and run a self hosted shopping cart, but that's just me. Others seem to be happy doing it that way.

There is nothing wrong with that. Just make the best choice you can and then get going. You don't make money by trying to figure it out, you make money when you sell products.

Magento is very powerful. It gives you a lot of room to grow: rich out-of-the box features and lots of 3d party extensions for every budget, plus it's fully customizable. Also, the community edition is free, but it doesn't offer support, so Magento requires programming skills.

As for the hosting - rackspace - is the best one. It's the most expensive, but it's worth it.

Actually, there is no best e-commerce platform because it all depends on users need and it may vary from one user to another. It also depends on the level of complexity which you are willing to accept or learn. Personally, I like PrestaShop because of its look and feel, if you are going to consider this platform then be prepared to pay for add-ons and the customization and bulk product listing. Note: consider Magento if you are keen to pump money at an enhanced server, because it’s a resource hungry application.

From all I've found out, Magento rules...though they had an head-start, yet their solution make sit easier to upscale. WordPress + Woocommerce has gone quite popular in recent times, so also is Shopify. Prestashop seems to be stalling if you ask me.

Ok so I ended up choosing opencart and had no problems installing it.

I've been able to edit the general settings for my website and it doesn't seem too bad so far, however there isn't much documentation online and as I said I am totally new to this type of business, so I've run into a few things already.

First of all, There are 3 options for default currency. Is there any way to change this to Canadian Dollar?

Is anyone available to help guide me through getting payment, shipping options set up?

Thank you all for your support and input!

Your best bet is to post your questions in the opencart forums. There are very helpful users there (myself included) who are always happy to help you get started.

Go with a hosted solution (BigCommerce, Shopify, etc.), not a Wordpress plugin or script...

Starting up, your goal should be to focus on your BUSINESS, not the technology. Hosted shopping carts have more intuitive features, never need to be updated/upgraded, and bugs/tech issues aren't your problem, they have teams of people dedicated to fixing it. Get your products in and spend your time thinking about how you're going to market the site, not what technology is going to run it.
