New Business, Ethics for Starting E-mail Marketing

My e-mail marketing campaign will target web designers and digital marketing firms in my local area (as well as the local business owners who will be subscribing through my website).

I want to further educated the local web designers and digital marketers about the powers of video and I have a good list of contacts.

Is it ethical to add them to my e-mail list without asking them permission first?

Should I reach out to them first and ask if they would be interested in my e-mail blasts?

Or is it okay to just send them the e-mail without permission first?

What are some ethics to starting your e-mail list?

Thanks!

    Hi there,

I wouldn't send any e-mails without permission - that is basically spamming. Don't mean to sound harsh but even from a buinesss point of view it isn't going to do your reputation any good.

I would try calling them before I would try sending them unsolicited email.
I would imagine if you can get someone on the phone to speak too as well, and have a good pitch, you could close them a lot quicker as well.

Sending out email communications without prior consent is considered spam and enforceable by law in many countries under things like CAN-SPAM and CASL.. and the proposed fines are pretty hefty.

Even if you do ignore that, the chances are that your list will be flagged as spam pretty quickly and you will be booted by your email newsletter provider. So.. It's just not worth it in my professional opinion.

It's always best to build relationships and build your lists organically. It will yield MUCH higher quality leads and in turn higher profits to you. So it's time to start growing that list and there are many methods - time to take a look at the growth hacking forum!

Be very careful if you want it to stay a good list of contacts.

I agree with that completely. Even if a particular web designer has no interest in getteing your emails at least he will definitely appreciate your ethical conduct
