How do you deal with DOUBLE OPT-IN?

I've been having trouble with figuring out how to efficiently deal with the Double Opt-In mess that a lot of email marketing providers are requiring.

I was able to get double opt-in turned off for some landing page / autoresponder series I have set up through AWEBER (get response didn't approve it) however NOW I am learning that if I ever want to switch over a contact from one list to another, I have to get them to OPT-IN again.

In my situation I run a fitness/lifestyle Center. When a member goes from say being a trial member to a regular member I would have to get them to double-opt-in again to get our regular member newsletter (which ok wouldn't be such a big deal since they probably would be very willing). However on the other end, a regular member, who maybe hasn't shown up in quite some time, we would switch them to a "past member" autoresponder. Obviously in this case switching them over to a new list and it requiring ANOTHER double Opt-in highly decreases the chances of it actually being approved and us being able to send out those emails.

I have been back and fourth between get response, aweber and constant contact trying to figure out which one to use, some have features that others don't so its getting highly confusing.

We are very CRM driven, is maybe a CRM based email sender services better in this case? Salesforce?

need some help....

I believe that's correct you cannot move subscribers off of one list into another from my understanding they would have to re-opt again. I had a similar issue before. It can be a hassle if that's what Aweber tells you, that's their rule they have in place, probably to protect from sending unsolicited emails to people who didn't subscribe to that "particular" list. You might wanna try contacting Aweber again and see about getting a different response.

      Hi

I use Aweber and can share something that may work.

You said you would like to automatically unsubscribe a member from the "trial" list to "paid" list when they become a paid member.

There is a function in "aweber" called Automation. You can make a rule for a list, where when someone signs up to the "paid" list, they will be automatically unsubscribed from the "trial" list. It won't require double-opt-in.

      The instructions are here:

I also use "AW Pro Tools". It allows you to do some very cool stuff - for example, move subscribers from one list to another when they reach the end of the follow up sequence.

Or to move the subscriber from one list to another when they click a particular link.

      All without any opt-ins whatsoever.

      Hope this helps!

      Greg
