If you bing search "Mailchamp vs Aweber", Aweber seems to be better for a number of reasons.

I have heard that mailchimp doesn't allow affiliate links.

But I recommend mailchimp to my small business clients because it's free for small lists and it's easy to use.

If you look at Mail Chimp's TOS you'll find that certain topics that are frequently associated with spam aren't allowed and can lead to your account getting banned.

As mentioned above, Mailchimp just isn't gearing their business toward internet marketers. GetResponse and Aweber are much more friendly to the IM crowd. I have heard of Mailchimp accounts getting banned for affiliate marketing. I have used it personally, but only for non-marketing purposes and it seemed a bit hokey to me honesty. I much prefer Get Response for ease of use and deliverability.

      Yes - this is common.

Although it says in the information on their site that they do sometimes allow some, occasional affiliate-links to be sent out in their clients' emails, in fact their support staff tell people openly that if they even suspect people are affiliate marketers (even if they don't use Mailchimp to do their affiliate marketing but do it elsewhere!), they will immediately close their Mailchimp account. And they do, too.

It's "being an affiliate marketer" that they object to, not just "using Mailchimp for affiliate marketing".

The warnings and discussions are all there, in those threads listed above: there's no need for Warriors who read them to endure these "accidents" (they're actually "disasters", not just "accidents", really: your list is typically your business's greatest and most valuable asset!).

A lot of marketers use all sorts of companies.

The most common ones are Getresponse.com and Aweber.com. I guess they have been longer then most of the auto-responder services that are online today. I am guessing that there are 100's of them with new ones coming on board each day.

    Well, I use MailChimp.

I am just sending out links to my articles at the moment, but I am planning to send affiliate links eventually.

I will have to check out this issue before I do I suppose.

Your account will eventually get shut down if/when you decide to start promoting affiliate offers.

Don't rely on that "information", Nathan!!

The fact that that's what they say about affiliate marketing on their website is the reason for all these problems, not the answer to them.

If you read carefully through the threads linked to, above, you'll rapidly learn that there's a world of difference between what they say on their website and what they actually do!

Okay. I'll happily take that advice but at the moment, i am having no problems and will contact mailchimp prior to sending out affiliates to make sure its not a problem.

And why do people think its free?

There is a free option, but you can't set up automation or anything useful with it imo. I am currently paying $10/m to automate some emails.

I get less subscribers, but I am nowhere near the limit at the moment.

Let me ask the opposite question.

Are there any of you that have had good experiences with Mailchimp?

It can't all be bad surely.

Good luck with that. Personally, I'd still advise you not to rely on the strength of any individual representations from that company's staff. Others have certainly posted here (in some of the threads linked to above, if I remember correctly) about how they've done so and still had their accounts closed. "Just saying".

Call me a skepchick, but I suspect those are a mixture of (a) people who don't appreciate the significance of the difference between "broadcasts only" and an autoresponder, and (b) people whose information on the entire subject of what "email marketing" is all really about emanates largely from the celebrated Urban Myth School of Internet Marketing.

The "Reviews Forum" would be the place to ask this, but again, for myself, I'd still interpret the self-selected replies to any such question rather carefully, and in conjunction with all the extensive warning comments made by so many other members in the threads mentioned above.

What percentage of it would have to be "bad", to put you off using the service?

Mail Chimp to me is for amateurs and not for people who are serious about business.

I don't even think Mail chimp likes marketers, I am unsure but last I heard you can't market products.

All you can do is provide free newsletter and that's it. Again, I am not sure, but go with Aweber anyway.

There is many marketing programs so you don't have to use MailChimp. I like also CampaignMonitor - it’s simple and intuitive as well - but I prefer FreshMail which is better designed. Also it’s cheaper.
