What HTML Templates Do You Use?

I'm curious, what templates are working for you right now.

Or are you just using plain text in HTML?

I use a very simple html template that, when viewed in an email client or browser, looks a lot like plain text on a web page. I can use things like bold, italics, bullet lists, etc., as well as anchor text links.

I also send a plain text version. Among other things, it helps with deliverability and with avoiding spam filters.

I do the same thing. My text is centered in the page, and slightly larger font... I use the same bolding, italics, etc... and background color highlight. I rarely use anchor text, I usually simply type out the entire URL. But then again, I use Pretty Link, and can make a nice link out of anything.

As for the plain text, I consider that an absolute necessity. Aweber did it automatically, you have to manually do it on Getresponse.

While I liked the automatic feature of Aweber, I'm growing accustomed to the better manual control that Getresponse forces you to have.

Swapping out the anchor text links is easy. I just load up the html version into a text editor, do a find/replace for the links, and a macro to remove the html tags. Takes about two minutes on average.

Of course... I built my first website in notepad - so HTML is my second language. I don't have a real reason for giving a real link... perhaps it does better than anchor text links, perhaps it doesn't... I've never split tested it.

It's just a personal preference more than anything else.

And it keeps my website URL in front of everyone...

No real reason to do it over anchor text...

In my case, less personal preference and more longtime habit...

I use a simple email template. I usually write everything in text edit then add some html to it.

    Simple things, underline, bold etc.

    Works well.

Personally, I would not get "too" fancy with your HTML in your emails. Granted, if you sign up for emails by big chain stores or other well known companies they have pretty detailed templates, but they have also been around so long that email providers like gmail and hotmail just let them right through (that and they have teams of people who work to keep them white listed).

Keep it simple, basic bold, underline, font size etc. Over time if you want to make small changes, but just make sure to watch your delivery. If your numbers drop, then you know the last change was either too much or too soon.
