There's usually a spam score in your autoresponder next to emails you create - it should be lowest possible - it gets high depends on what words you use in your email.

Whichever autoresponder you use, the important thing is to use your "thank you page" (the page resolved to after the click on email-address-submission button) to give your subscribers clear instructions, both in words and in pictures, on what they have to do - in their own email client software - to ensure that they receive your emails in their in-boxes. Giving separate explanations for gmail and non-gmail users.

This isn't a problem, if you explain it to people clearly, so that they really get the message that (a) it isn't your fault, and (b) they do have to do something themselves. You can even turn it to your advantage, by offering it to people as part of a little commentary about what a horrible thing "spam" is, these days, and you can make your own attitude sound reassuring on the point. Like so many things in internet marketing that come across as a "chore" and a "nuisance", there are ways of turning it to your advantage and using it to help to generate trust and respect, and since trust and respect are the primary income-determinants in this context, it's really important to do these things well and professionally.

A while back I set up my own self hosted autoresponder which works over Amazon SES backbone.. At first similar problems until I incorporated SPF and DKIM (which involves some cpanel settings)...

After that its been great and no problems experienced.... In addition on your first email (if double opt-in) and just after signup (where page redirects to after signup) - recommend to your subscriber that sometimes emails end up in spam folders and to be on the safe side to add you to approved/safe email list...

Also always remind them that they can opt out too (and of course on every message provide that link).... after all no point having people on a list that don't want to be on it - especially when you note the costs per hundreds for most autoresponder services.... Hope that helps and good luck!

Exactly. And that's why the observations in post #3, above, are so very important: your income depends on them.

It's worth having a look into the study of e-mail deliverability. There are a great many factors that influence if it can arrive successfully. You may be using some words in your e-mails that trigger it or any number of other things.
