First contact mail experience?

I'm not up to standard email marketing with mass mailing. I'm talking here about sales mail contact to targeted leads and what is, in your opinion, best way to approach lead so you do not be considered spam!?
I have a good product to business side of our industry and I want to offer it only to certain sites so what would be best approach in this!?
