Good self hosted auto responder and 3rd party SMTP service

So basically just wondering what everyone else thinks are some good self hosted auto responders and 3rd party SMTP services and why. I have already done a lot of searching my self, but I would still really like to hear other peoples suggestions.

For an auto responder I was thinking about either Sendblaster 3 or Atomic Mail Sender and while Interspire also looks good, that's just a bit more then I'm looking to drop right now. For a SMTP I was thinking to go with Mandrill or Amazon ses. Also please don't even waste your time suggesting anything like mailchimp or aweber.

Thanks.

I've used Mandrill and Amazon SES. Amazon SES is definitely the cheapest option but it doesn't allow MMO-related stuff AFAIK.

If you want to do self-hosted, Mandrill is the next cheapest SMTP service after Amazon SES. In my opinion, both have pretty good delivery rate.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting that you can't do any MMO-related stuff with Amazon SES, but I have no plan to do any MMO stuff, at least not anytime soon.

But I'm starting to think I will go with Mandrill as it seems to have more over all features, mainly the ability to get dedicated IPs down the road if I want it and split testing. For a while I was avoiding Mandrill just because I knew it was the same guys that ran mailchimp and I heard a lot of bad things about it, mainly that they don't allow affiliate marketing, but it seems for Mandrill it's ok.

For Mandrill, what SMTP software do you use with it? I know they have a free wordpress plugin called wpMandrill, which is cool because I can dig into the code if I want to, where I'm guessing all the other self hosted auto responders you can't, but still didn't know if their are better options out there for wordpress. Or do you just work with the developer API your self?
