Do VPS hosting companies ban?

Hello

I plan on setting up a email server on a VPS and to use IMAP and SMTP to run an autoresponder on it. Do most VPS companies ban clients for using their servers as an autoresponder?

    No. But you spam, yes...

    How they know you spamming?

    1. Sending millions of emails.
    2. Sending more than allotted amount of emails.
    3. Spam complaints.

So if you use VPS for legit EM with double opt-in, unsubscriptions, can-spam compliant, your host rule compliant, nobody would ban. Because I am using it for 8 years.

    Good luck!

I will not be sending millions of emails, it will be an autoresponder. It will respond once they email it.

I'm a little worried about setting up the VPS correctly. Would it be wise to install a free hosting control panel on it like zpanel or centos-webpanel?

that way I can add email accounts, etc in the control panel.

      What do you recommend?

You mean one-time email response? Or sending series of follow up emails?

If you are new to it, I'd advice go with host default hostpanel (like cpanel, directadmin or webmin) whatever your host offers. It will be easy for you.

As far as I know except cpanel all other options are free (if they offer) during sign-ups.

Once your host handovers your VPS along with default panel, you don't have to worry about it. They will do automatic upgrades.

The tough part of using a VPS is that you have to maintain your emailing practices according to google and yahoo's protocols. otherwise your server will be black listed really quickly and all of your emails will go to the spam folders automatically.

I think you're better of using some autoresponder script and using an smtp service.

As mentioned it's really ahrd not to get your domain blacklisted, even if you send legitimate emails if you're not sure what you're doing.

Or you would have to hire somebody to manage your server for you, but then you might as well get an autoresponer account with one of the big companies.
