Will building a list of quality leads be a viable source of passive income?

Hi I was able to build a list of 220 leads for the past 4 days and was wondering... does it really have the potential to be a source of passive income?

I did a lot of research on the importance of establishing multiple streams of passive income to reach financial freedom..

The leads were generated by sending traffic to a squeeze page focusing on promoting the weight loss benefits of my natural health product, and the technology speaks for itself as it's widely endorsed by reknown health activists.

I will be dedicating time to set up a quality newsletter providing valuable information, and effective (i'm hoping) sales copy to sell my product that I am a distributor of.

The leads were generated from traffic from Bing Ads when people type weight loss keywords, so I'm hoping the quality will be enough to generate income.

Say if I dedicate myself to build a list of 1,000 to 2,000 subscribers, will it help me generate passive income? Many people say that the average income per subscriber per month is $1, but how much potential is there to earn more than that?

I really want to set up a plan for the new years to bring my income to the next level, i.e $4,000 to $10,000 (eventually) + per month.

It's just that I'm concerned because with the welcome autoresponder email that provides the people who opt in with the free report only got a 10% open rate, and yesterday I sent the first email which was after the welcome email, and it also only got a 10% open rate. It's funny because they both got an exact open rate of 10%.

Is a 10% open rate sufficient to actually succeed in generating passive income from a lead list? I did research and many websites say the average is 18%-20% plus which can be double more than what I've achieved so far..

    Hi Kangen

First of all - CONGRATS, THAT'S AWESOME!

Actually, list building is VERY profitable and I make most of my online income from my various email lists.

First build up to 1,000, then 2,500, then 10,000

I ALWAYS tell people to set their goal at around 10k or so - that's a good # and you'll be able to make pretty good money from it!

Don't get me wrong, you can do well with a list of 1k or 2k - but why stop there?

One More thing - this is working GREAT with list building now.
    1. Set up your Free Offer/Squeeze Page for an awesome (unique) FREE giveaway.
    2. Once people opt in - have them re-directed to an AFFILIATE offer in your niche, similar to the freebee you're promoting - you'll make some sales immediately from this.
    3. Have your FIRST email be a "thank you" email that sends them a link to a custom "thank you page" you've built. On the TYP (Thank you page) you can give them a link to download their free report/video etc - AND again put a banner for the affiliate product you're promoting.
I've made over $1,000 in a single DAY with this method using just solo ad traffic. (Made back the money I spent on traffic too)

    Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot for the information and inspiration!

I was thinking of the potential there would be to have a lead list of 10,000 subscribers. Even if I averaged $1 per subscriber per month that would be $10K per month, which for me certainly would be financial freedom.

Building a list is so VITAL to having an online business, its one of the only sources of income that YOU control completely!

1 tip: Always make a backup of your list just in case you get 1 too many complaints and aweber shuts you down

Yep I was thinking of that, so I made sure to download the list in excel format.

Hi Kangen333, are you promoting one product or are you promoting multiple products to your weight loss list?

I'm primarily focusing on one product as that's all I introduced on the opt-in page, but I'm also thinking of promoting other natural weight loss products with a lower price.

Your list, your site and your own products are the only real assets you have online.

Focus on those aspects and you can do very well indeed!

Hello again... Kangen333, Sorry for asking, do you know the age range (demographics) of your subscribers... or the only thing you know about them is that they are interested in losing weight?

PS: I am thinking of going into the fitness niche.

Hi teeowl, no problem. I'm not too sure what the age range is for my subscribers as I didn't specify it in the Bing Ads campaign, so yes the only thing that I know is that they have interest in weight loss. It's funny that you mentioned about fitness because I'm thinking of setting up ads for keywords related to that as my product is endorsed by quite a few well known fitness experts.

Sorry, you have got really major problems if the intro email with gift gets only 10% Open rate.

Even for the MMO Niche that is miserable Open rate.

You need to evaluate your initial interaction with your prospects and what the quality of the free gift is and why prospects aren't eager to check it out by opening up that first email.

Yes, you can make Passive income. But it will NEVER be totally passive income. You have to continually keep building that List and communicating with Subs on a regular basis.

    .
The one thing you do need to realize to reach that goal is to have all your customers pay a monthly fee for the product that you are promoting.

If you focus all your attention on getting one time commission sales, you pretty much have to bring in a curtain number of sales every single month.

Both Robert (discrat) and talfighel gave you good information.

As you guessed, there is a flaw in your process. Somewhere between your ad and your first email, you are creating a disconnect.

Start with your opt-in rate. Of the people clicking through from your ads, what percentage of them are filling out your form to get the lead magnet (your report)? If your stuff is as good as you say it is, you should be able to get that rate ~50%.

Next, look at the page those people land on after submitting the form. Something tells me that you're doing something to create a disconnect, and people are deciding that they signed up for the wrong list. If only 10% of the people who opt in are even opening the email to get your lead magnet, something is definitely amiss.

You also didn't mention how many people, out of the 10% opens, went on to actually download their report.

Just keep working on one bottleneck at a time until things are running smoothly.

Other than bonds, dividend paying stocks, royalties and the like, there is no truly passive income. There is, however, the potential for income out of proportion to work required.

Oh, and that bit about subscribers being worth $1/month each? That's a myth. Years ago, a presenter at an event used the example in his presentation, using $1 to keep the math simple. Over the years, the typical "Chinese whispers" game has turned that into some kind of rule of thumb.
