How should I query and what should I do with subscribers that never open emails?

I use GetResponse and have been wondering why my open rates are so low (Only been doing this a few months)

My list size is 3300 and I was just querying and it looks like almost a quarter of my subscribers never open emails! What should I do with these people? Should I just delete them or should I create an idle campaign and move them there?

Also what is the best criteria to weed people out for example: people that subscribed 1 month ago but have never opened an email? etc.

Rookie in need!

What I would recommend doing is trying a different ad. less details, just something like "want a free book, click here" and see if the opens get better. If so, you could be setting off spam filters and they may never even be seeing your email. Also try emailing them from another mailer. If the opens are better, then its your mailer. Also you can always work with a partner and see if they can get a return on them and split the earnings 50/50. If you are interested in #3, let me know

Sorry I should have clarified more, this is for emails that I send out in general, not an ad. My open rate is so low because almost 1000 subscribers just opted in for the free ebook and then never opened an email. I was wondering what other email marketers do to weed these out.

Honestly, I would just delete them. 3 months is long enough o track whether or not they are going to be active for you or not. You are paying for a list by the size. Don't pay for people that are inactive. Plus, you only make money off the ones who are active ever. So you are not loosing anything by deleting them but you are gaining money saved per month.

Hi, Anyone that has not opened even once in 60 days goes off my list(s).

I do this once a month.

Prior to that I move them to a separate list and mail them a shocker headline. I'll get a few opens and put them back on my main list.

The non opens I then purge.

The thing is if they don't open a lot are in spam folders.

Unless emails are bounced back, I don't delete them. Unsubscribed ofcourse are out of lists.

You need to remember that not all people are interested in all subjects that you send.

Try sending another free ebook, and see if the subscribers that are not opened are responding. Offer an extra incentive like customization of ebook with their website.

Yes but I see hundreds that have never opened an email. I think there are some that just optin to get a free something and never open anything after that and maybe even using an alternative email just to do this. Wouldn't you just delete these subscribers?

Delete them. You should also check where the emails are going. Are they ending up in a spam folder or are those people just ignoring you? If they are ignoring, they are just too lazy to unsubscribe. Do it for them. If it's going to spam, consider a different autoresponder.

How do you tell if it's going to spam?

One way would be to setup some accounts via hotmail, yahoo, aol, gmail and maybe a couple of others. Manually add those accounts in a separate list and broadcast the email to these.

In one of my funnels, I also mention that the information that they signed up for, will come through via email and I mention that, in the video, underneath and as a step 1 as this one in particular is essentially bootcamp training Screenshot by Lightshot

Another thing you can try if you haven't done so, is to replace your from email. Sometimes the free servers such gmail etc, often go into the spam folder, however... changing it to something like call@jmk909er.com has also shown to improve inbox delivery rates.

And finally... connect with them on Facebook (if you're social). So I'd export the list for that week or so. Then enter their email address in FB to see if their profiles come up and connect with them.

The more you're around, the more likely you'll become more noticeable and then you can always mention an upcomming email etc...

One thing to keep in mind is that measuring opens is not an exact process, no matter what anyone tells you. Open rates are measured by inserting a 1x1 pixel image in the html version of an email. Opens are measured by counting the times that tracking image is called from the server. If that image isn't called, no open is measured, even if the person has images turned off (common security measure) or only opens the text version, or reads the email in the preview pane of their email app.

Simply deleting people who have not downloaded the tracking image could be false economy.

Better to send them a "is anybody there" message asking them to click a link to stay on the list. If they don't respond, then feel free to delete them if you wish.

I just seed my lists with this type of address, but a separate manual list does make sense for testing both where the message lands and formatting, links, etc. before sending to the actual list.

Don't overlook the fact that most mailers (including Get Response) charge more the larger your list gets. So weeding them out as you go can save you money.
