Need Advice on Leveraging 6 Figure Current Traffic

I've got a blog getting about 6 figures of traffic per month. It doesn't have many pages, and the pages it does have are good factually but for building a relationship, user engagement, virality, and working in unison towards a prime directive (making money) -- they are not very good.

In short I will need to renovate this entire blog if I want it to do well.

Currently I am working on an ebook that I will sell on this blog in the future. The topic of the blog I am familiar with but the niche itself I am not. So I am actually learning myself as I am writing the ebook. Basically reading technical books from the experts, applying it in my daily life, and then re-writing and drastically simplifying it for my ebook.

So as it stands I will not be completely re-doing/adding any new content or fixing up the site until I finish the ebook. That way I can draw upon topics I've already written inside the book and add whatever zest of psychology, personality, and virality-aspects that good blog posts require. And of course after the completion of the ebook I will be much more knowledgable as well.

Anyway I am just wondering that given the above specifics; if any one has any tips on how I can leverage my 6 figures or so monthly traffic to better my likelihood of future success?

Currently I have stuck opt-in boxes on my site and am getting about 50 subscribers per day on single opt-in, which is only getting about 1% of traffic to opt-in. I am also worried that in a month or two when I actually do email these people they wont even get my messages as it may hit their junk or social tab -- or they may forget about me all together because of the gap in time. I dont know how to solve this issue or if it is a real issue; as currently I am not sending any emails.

Anyway just wondering some tips from experienced email marketers on:

1) How to get more opt-ins currently without emailing or adding new content (1% seems terrible)
2) If the 2 month gap between single opt-in and first email/blog renovation should worry me
3) Anything additional you might do in this scenario

First of all I think you should start mailing this people right NOW and start building that relationship.

    1) About your Opt-In rates it's hard to say without seeing your site but what are you offering them in exchange for their email? And what is the positioning of your Opt-In box on your blog?

    2) As I said don't wait before mailing them that is a BIG mistake. Instead write an automated autoresponder sequence and start mailing every subscriber from day ONE and then keep building that relationship. If you wait for two months they probably forgot they even signed up.

    3) Yeah I would like to see the blog in order to give a more authentic opinion
