Self Hosted Auto Responders

Are there any Warriors out there using self hosted autoresponders? What are your results, opinions? What do you consider to be the pros and cons?

    I used Sendy for a while.

    It was a solid autoresponder; however, I went back to MailChimp.

    MailChimp just has so many more options, features, and integrations that Sendy couldn't compete.

      The only reason I can see for using self-hosted autoresponders is when you have large lists or specialized scripts. For most applications, commercial autoresponder service providers (Weber, Getresponse, etc) generally are the best solution for their support, wide variety of available options, and optimized ISP-compliant delivery. To get these same benefits with self-hosted autoresponders requires technical expertise and expense which seldom can be economical unless amortized by recovery over large numbers of subscribers.

    Be mindful of your IP being blocked which is why we use services like GR and Aweber.

      I personally use Aweber, Getresponse, GVO and Trafficwave as well as a self hosted SMTP. I find that each has its advantages and I wanted to see if others are using them in similar ways.

    When you have big lists, wants customization and your own VPS to optimize then self-hosted are very convenient and cost effective.
