list cleaning - Do you delete No Opens ?

Hey what are your thoughts on deleting subscribers in Aqeber that do not open your emails? How about getting rid of those that have not even open your very first email?

One reason I think about doing this is that there are so many people out there that have been selling bot clicks and leads. Dumping fake leads into your autoreponder. So we are paying for this and your list is decreasing in quality the more you get on your list.

Thoughts?

Run something like a 3-5 day Free Gift Campaign to those that haven't open for X days and see if they open then.

Combine it in list for not opened OR not clicked (either one).

Many people open on mobile devices and their opens are not being counted in stats.

Clicks on other hand is a different beast, because each subscriber gets his own and slightly different link, and therefore clicks are always get tracked.

So people who stay on the list is the ones who either open or click.

  • Get rid of the people who do not open your emails. I usually do it so that when someone doesn't open my email 5 times or more, they get canned.

Yes I do. AGGRESSIVELY. I hate list squatters. I make sure I prune using the following formula

Date Added - 1 month ago and before

No opens since - 1.5 months ago

    Works like a charm

I haven't used Aweber myself however Mailchimp has automated list cleaning to ensure your list performs at it's best. Does Aweber perhaps have a similar setting that you could explore to maintain good list health and quality?

I agree with DIABL0 in that you should potentially run a promotion with some sort of free gift, at least at first. If you can manage to re-engage your list again then you have a chance to increase the lifetime value of your customer base.

However I am all for a clean list too, it may be worth while moving all email addresses that have gone cold to another list or segment and then send a campaign out only targeting them. Keep the ones that you could get through to and drop the rest.

Hope this helps you make your decision on what to do.

i delete my unopened once a month because whats the point of having subscribers if they don't even open my emails most auto responder bill on how many subscribers you have in your account so I see no benefit of having them on my list if i can't monetize them

Make sure if you do this to filter it by anyone who hasn't opened an email in X number of days, PLUS anyone who hasn't clicked any link in an email in X number of days.

Yes, I delete them regularly. If they didn't open 3 months they go to history...

If you are using a dedicated IP and thinking about moving non opens/clickers to another list, you may want to think about moving them to another platform instead. This will increase your open/click percentage rate and show better list engagement and help with you IP sender score. You could use a self hosted solution with a cheap smtp for example. In addition you could send more mainstream affiliate offers. Then again, if your not talking about a lot of records, it may be worth just dumping them.
