Amazon SES suspending account?

Amazon have notified me they have suspended my SES account due to " sending violations". They refuse to say specifically why which makes it difficult if not impossible to rectify. Anyone have any ideas? Has anyone had the same problem and any suggestions on what to do?
All my email lists are double opt in, with clear unsubscribe instructions and I mainly only promote my own products with the occasional affiliate offer.

I haven't had dealings with them myself although I was looking into it but I read about how strict they can be in regards to emails being sent out. They do use them for other services but they are pretty hard to get ahold of as well. If you don't have that big of a list then you might want to use another email service but if you want to stick with them then you will need to continue plugging away until they give a clear reason.

What niche is your list in? Maybe they do not allow your niche anymore?

They have a 5% cap on bounces/complaints... Get above that and you get nailed. Also, if you don't have bounces setup to be automatically removed, I have seen people lose accounts over that even though their bounce rate had not hit 5%

All just speculation and guesses of course.

5% cap is way more then any other esp will allow you.
Most wont allow more then 0.3 abuse at max.
Furthermore, if you ran over your limit every day they will also ban you.
What was your engagement like? You need quality engagement for amazon to give you more limit and to keep your account in good standing.

Yes if your bounce rate is too high, they will generally suspend you or put you on probation. Now since we're on the Warrior Forum, I should let you know that - If you're using Amazon SES for Online Marketing messages, then sooner or later or even years later, they'll suspend you. It's not a long term strategy using something like SES + Sendy.co emailer. I used them for years until I got a manual suspend. I was promoting a landing page creator that's not even remotely scammy (maybe it is to the average joe) and there goes the account. Poof. They classified it as some "Prohibited Item".

Mailjet is another one. Also a word of advice, never use an SMTP's online mailing system. Always keep your emails on a self hosted application, so if they do pull the plug, you have your emails and can switch.

Interesting post Stephen. I am with Sendy and hadn't ever considered this. What did you do once SES account was suspended? Did you have to go with MailChimp or Aweber?

Amazon used to be fairly friendly for sending bulk mail back in the early 2015.
Since them, they have really cracked down on people who are using their service to send out mail.
They still work pretty well for transactional email ongoing, but for anything marketing related, you will likely find your accounts are going to be shut down very quickly.
If you want any hope of keeping accounts live for some time, make sure to always verify and clean your lists (even if oopt in) prior to mailing them to ensure you are able to minimize your complaints.
You can also use pad files to help achieve this.

ProducerK - can you explain what a pad file is?

Has anyone come up with a list cleaner tool that can be purchased as software you can download and run locally rather than having to hand over a list to someone or upload it to a cleaning site?

strange, if your lists is double opt-in then how could any email service provider suspend your account?
you can try aweber, getresponse or mandrill for email delivery.

    Hi anders3397,
I had mine cancelled because they did'nt like a product I promoted.

    Very little discussion... All over.

I guess it is just very hit and miss?

That is the trouble when you are relying on other companies for your business.

They can turn on you at a moments notice.

How anyone can consider a confirmed opt-in a problem of any kind is a mystery to me, but that is the fact of it. This business just has risks...

I hope you can at least get a download of your list.

    cheers, Mal.
