Optin url or embed form on site?

Does anyone use an optin url instead of embedding the form on your site? Using AWeber for example, they give you the snippet to install on your site which to me is by far the most effective, but you also have the option for them to host your form and they give you a url to the form. Has anyone tried the url method? I would be hesitant to have my visitors have to click off my site to sign up for something? Just one more chance to lose a lead. Any thoughts?

This link would be more for directing existing leads to other registration pages for webinars you will hold or other free reports you will give away to segment your current list and offers.

Other than that there is no need for it unless you are having a hard time making them embedded form look well on your site.

Even then, it's better to have someone embed it for you.

You may also wish to try having them click a link to bring up a pop-up and see how that works.

The idea is, people are less resistant to click to another page than they are to submit info into a form.

Clicking a link to another page or another step in the process is good as long as the branding is consistent as is the case with many insurance offers and such. For that, they actually do better just having a person input their zip code before asking for their email.

The idea with that is the first less resistance CTA gets them to make a commitment. Then those who are most interested and hotter prospects are more likely to make a larger commitment like give you their email.

Hope that made sense and hope I answered your OP well enough.
