TIP: How to turn email addresses in to profitable friends

So you guys want to make some money online or offline? Maybe as a passive income, or maybe you want to real deal and want to make $10.000$ a month. All is possible, if you know & understand your targeted group. And to be honest most of you have NO idea.

If fact most of you, prefer the Russian method: "SPAM" send as much as offers to as much as possible email addresses.

What if you could change that, and could turn every email address you got into personal "friend". Wouldn't that be great? Because if you could advice a friend, instead of just selling to a stranger, this would increase your sales dramatically. You can go from 1% to 25%, from 1.000$ a month to 25.000$ a month.
I understand that when you have no 25.000 emails, it will not be easy to become friends with all of them tomorrow. But you can start today with the first 100. And with the first 100 you already should see results.

How did I do it?

When I got an email address, I always mailed the person back.
1. Friendly / personal email
2. I introduced myself
3. I tried to find out why he subscribed
4. Is there is anything I could help him with etc.
5. I gave him the social accounts of the "company"
6. I always ended with my "real" name
7. And at the bottom I gave him more of my personal data, even "my" personal FB account

80% Of my emails where answered, by friendly and personal letters, and they give me so much information. This information I putted in my database. I started to understand, how they think, what they wanted and when they wanted it.
At the same time, I got a lot more FB followers and even real friend requests. And they are worth a lot. You can read all about them, and really get to know them.
So now when I had a good offer, I selected a group of people, that I knew they needed that product at that time. And made them a personal offer, that offer could looked like this:

Hi <Name>

How are you and how is the family doing? I saw some great pictures on FB in the last weeks about your dog. As I understand you are all crazy about him, don't you. Or is it a she? Forgive me then.

As you know I have myself a complete zoo at home. And since some weeks I buy my pet food online at <LINK>, with a big discount. Probably you also have a great address, where you buy (LET ME KNOW PLEASE), but if now try this online store, they really are good and you get a first buyers discount of 20%. (Code: FIRSTBUY).

Besides that, not much to tell, oh yes we are planning our next holiday. Do you have any secret hideouts where we should go this year? Let me know.

Wish you a nice day

Gr. <My name>

This email, I did send (In my native language) to 800 of my 20.000 email addresses.
Results:

544 Sales I had on that email in the first week after I send it. Giving me a profit of 4000$.
Almost all answered my email positively; most of them gave my tips on pets, and many on holidays.
What gave me material for my next email.

Again I know this way takes time, and it is not for all people. But if you invest in your clients, they will pay you back!
4 Years ago, I sold this part of my activities to focus on a new project. And even when it has nothing to do with email marketing. I still know each and every one of my clients, because it boosts my sales and reduces the complaints I get.

Hope this can help you all in your profibility.

Great idea! I think the early "personalization embed" was the clincher to your success. Show people that you care so much that you're willing to spend time with them, one on one, and they can't help but give you some of that time right back.

This is great advice! I love it how you made the effort to go into detail and talk about how exactly you managed to make these people look at you as their friend and not just another guy trying to sell them something!

This is great! So for introducing yourself, do you introduce yourself as someone knowledgeable to the niche, or with experience in the niche? What if you don't have experience in the niche, could you just keep with a general introduction about who you are?

    Thanks!

Well first of all, I never sold anything outside my comfort zone. Now is my comfort zone very wide, so I have a lot of things I liked.

Pets, Cars, Water sports, Winter sports, Food, Biking, Gardening and so on.
I never presented myself as a guru, but more as your handy guy from next door, that can fix your tire, and paint your room. So from that sales guy, I'm became the advice guy.

Thanks a lot for sharing some great email marketing tips! I agree with you that sending personal emails will help you to connect with your subscribers and they tend to respond more to what you offer.

I also personally reply to emails or questions that I receive from my subscribers in a friendly manner so that they will see me as a friend instead of someone trying to sell them things.

Btw just curious though, how long does it take for you to know so much information about your subscribers? Because I believe it's kinda hard (and time consuming) to do it one by one if you have for example 10000 subscribers or more

That email list did cost me around 1.5 years to perfect it.
So I agree that it takes time for sure.

I started in Excel, working with columns, to add keywords to people.

      For example. Dog, FB, Family

After that I put them in a database and the filtering was easier.
The first emails will take a long time to process, but then it gets easier.

That is not what I'm saying, what I mean is, that most people that have email lists send to all subscribers the same mail. And that makes no sense at all. It's like sending SPAM and hoping that some will react.
Officially it's not spam, because the subscribers OPT-IN, but the effect is the same.

If you want to be successful with email marketing what you are saying just will NOT hold up in the long run.

It just won't !! Not when you begin to build a List of decent size.

Yes, my pre-made follow ups are sent the same to each member of my List. But there has been a long term effort on my part to make these follow up emails NOT just benefit me, but benefit them as well.

Actually benefit them to a great degree. It is my pride and joy and my reputation.

Going by what you say , why don't you tell Publishers Clearing House to send individual personalized mailouts to the millions of people in the US ?

See how that works ? It makes no sense !!

          Yes / No

You're right that if we are talking about millions, or even 100.000 plus email contacts, it will get harder to be friends with them all.

But first off all, I think that most starters in email marketing don't have that big lists. For example, I had only 20.000 emails, and made a more then decent income with it.

Now imagine you have 100.000 people in that list and you can turn it into 4 times what I made a month, and then you start to automate the process more and more and hire people to help you.

But Yes I have to be honest, that for big big lists, my experience will give practical problems.

          Thanks for pointing that out.

This is what is commonly known as indoctrination.

What you can do is when someone subscribes to your list, you also add them to a list that sends out an indoctrination autoresponder series. Typically you will send 1-3 messages that lets them get to know you or your company on a more personal level.

By adding them to a separate list/autoresponder series will insure that they only get the emails one time, as you shouldn't be able to add a duplicate email to the list. For example if you have multiple lists and you sent it to everyone that subscribes to a list, then those that subscribe to more than one list would get it multiple times.

So when someone subscribes to list 1, then they are also added to the indoctrination list, then if they subscribe to list 2, an attempt would be made to add them to the indoctrination list again, but it wouldn't happen because it's a duplicate email. So they would only get it the one one time, not multiple times regardless how many lists they subscribed to.

This all assumes that you are using a list based autoresponder like aweber, getresponse, etc... If you using a tag based autoresponder like ontraport, infusionsoft, etc... then it's simpler and you just set a tag up for it.

This is ironic. Just about 20 minutes ago I got an Optin from here and the person emailed me just right after this.
I emailed him back with a personalized message directly to his email.

He will be getting all my Follow Ups but I must admit I do enjoy this personal outreach with people like this
