Your best advice for building a good email-list

Hello to all of you,

I tried to succeed with niche-sites, but failed. After my first experiences, I recognized, that it's probably not the best thing to do for me, as I don't like writing about things, which I'm not fully interested in. Also I don't have enough money, to outsource the writing-process.

So I decided to move on and try email-marketing.
At the moment I have 30 subscribers in the cannabis-niche. I want to build better, bigger and high converting lists !

What is the best advice you can give to me about list-building and email-marketing in general?

Wish you all a great day.

Cheers from Germany,

Michael

Offer up an incentive in exchange for their email then get it in front of their eyeballs.

Focus on traffic sources that send the most subscribers for free: guest posting and forum posting -- Maybe YouTube? I haven't tried..

Either send 80% content, 20% promotions, or promote in every email and save the last 10% of the mail to flow into mentioning a product -- or come up with your own strategy, life's an adventure, right?

Offer up a cheap product they can buy from you on the Thank You page. Even if it's $1. Then you're building a buyer's list.

    I'm learning with you!

One of the important factors behind building an effective email list is "knowing your list". Such as who opened your emails & who didn't, who clicked on links and why, what time and from where in the world........

  • Use article directories (Ezine articles, go articles, etc.) and reddit to write articles.
The flow of users is tipically constant if your article is good.
Futhermore many people copy articles from article directories so also backlink building is automatic.

Just like creating our websites with our email marketing you have to optimize your subjects and bodies.

Who are the people on your list and share with them! Start with the very first email you have and get that to be opened and clicked on then move on to number two. You will also gain insight on your list and what who they are and what they like and need help with. You will start to see a pattern based on your marketing.

Do that and next you'll start to get replies and sales will start to drop in...

Thanks for the help so far.
One more thing: I don't like to write a lot. I'm not a writer ! It's no problem for me to write an email, but articles go a little bit to far for me. Especially in english, as my mother-language is german.

So I would be very glad, if you tell me methods without article-writing !

The best method is simply to outsource the heavy work that you don't want to do yourself. And it's quite easy to find a ghost writer and have it all done for you.
Only problem is that you must pay the person you hire to do the work, and that may be "too expensive". But what's the alternative? Probably that the necessary work is not being done. And without building your list you're not building any business at all.

If you are serious about building your business, you've got to realize that: in real business there is no way to make money without spending money. It doesn't grow until you believe in your own business idea - so much that you dare to risk some money to get it started. How else do you expect your customer to trust you?

In my own business it all began, when I finally dropped the idea of making money for free. It would take more then my lifetime!
Now I am associated with a successful marketer and mentor, who can help me to get all the work done professionally - for a very affordable price! And just following his training - step by step, I'm sure to be on my way to build a profitable business. And it's well worth, I think, to pay a little afford (time and money) to achieve that goal. I can't afford not to pay the price!

If you are ready to take the leap, just send me a PM for more info.

30 subscribers are few, so increases your maling list with some
    advertising. I suggest use:

    - PPC: AdWords (yahoo ads, bing ads)
    - FACEBOOK ADS (twitter+)

After that work with conversion rate thought mail:

    - offer free service, give news and anticipation and after that promote you services/products

If you want a bigger list, you're going to need more traffic. So you'll either have to do more work for the "free traffic" methods or spend more money on the paid methods.

If you want your list to be better, in the way of better quality subscribers and ones that convert better, then you need to build a buyers list. So instead of a free report, try a low end offer. This way, all your subscribers will be buyers from the word go.

You may find that your list won't grow as quickly, compared to if you were building it using a free report. However, a buyers list is more valuable than a freebie list, and you'll make money from a list of 100 buyers than you would from 1000 freebie seekers.

You can try creating your own product related to your niche. I'm sure there has to some interest in a cannabis related product..lol

Doing this will help you not only build your list, but also build a a buyers list. Plus, you will also be providing some value and content

    Make it relevant.

Don't trick users into giving you their email.

Better to have 5 subscribers that want to receive your email, than 10,000 those who don't.

Can we see your squeeze page?... or landing page? If you want consistent traffic, and alot of it... then you need to "put something out there" so that you can receive something back. In particular, i'm talking about paid advertising funds. Free techniques work, but this would be the faster solution. And make sure your content is good so that when you do lead people back to your site or email... they will actually want to READ what you've written.

First of all, find a problem and solve it!

If you've found a niche where many people share the same problems, you're half way there already. If you're looking for traffic and subscribers (without spending a fortune), find relevant forums and classified sites and make your presence known in these areas. Don't worry too much about your writing ability - make your offers short and sweet and offer tremendous value to your subscribers.

Check out findaforum.net to find forums relevant to your niche or search "cannabis forums" in Google. And don't discount the classifieds - plenty of opportunity there, too!

      Cheers,

      Will

I think you are in the right path! When I started to strictly implement tracking id's for all my affiliate links, I learned that 70% to 80% of my conversions came from my email marketing campaigns. So if they don't buy the first time, don't worry if you have them on your list. Good luck!

DO NOT EVER PUT ANYONE TO YOUR MAILING LIST!

This is a great suggestion so far. Think from the two possible perspectives:

    1) If you put anyone on your mailing list this means that you are sending your emails even to those people that are not interested in your services/products, so they will simply unsubscribe you.

    2) Another point is that while you are sending emails to those uninterested ones - they can even start calling you a spammer and you could easily damage your reputation.

So ask yourself - do you really want to take this risk?

Yeah unfortunately if you do not have enough money for outsourcing, you will be also required to write with email marketing.

But do not fret too much. Writing emails can be fun and nonchalant. In other wards, when writing one pretend like your best friend is in the room and you are writing to him.

You can make it funny and informative and really add some value. You can put PM links to a product at
    bottom !

    Be engaging !!

Try Youtube for more subscribers and more cheap traffic.

    1. Go To Keyword Planner and Find Out The Main Keywords in Your Niche.
    2. Make Youtube Channel About Your Niche.
    3. Make Small Videos Relevant to Keywords Using Bandicam, Camtasia etc.

It's not too fast method but it's free and it works.

Some great responses here so far, I have a few more points to add...

    1. [MOST IMPORTANT] Make it your lifelong goal to help people. Period. If you help them fix/solve/find what they were looking for help with, they'll be a subscriber for life.

    2. Don't ever SELL anything. Weird, right? Hear me out. If you do #1 (that I listed above), #2 will come naturally. Your subscribers will see it as a friendly recommendation... not a pitch. If they feel that you're selling to them, every time you send an email, they'll slowly stop opening your emails, then one day... they'll unsubscribe. The moment you stop delivering value to your subscribers is the moment you lost them.

    3. Don't think of email marketing as "writing"... think of it as teaching. You're just using written words to communicate your lessons.

    4. Write like you talk... seriously. Anyone on my list will tell you, it's like I'm having a personal conversation with them. It throws people off because they're so used to being sold to in email. I actually get compliments all the time from people saying, "Dude, you're one of the best email copywriters I've ever seen". Honestly, I'm not. I just know my audience and speak to them genuinely and authentically.

    5. If possible, choose evergreen products to promote. Then, build out mini-campaigns that can be setup via autoresponders and drive traffic to those campaigns. If they're evergreen products, they'll run for a long time untouched. It changes the perspective on the work you're doing to set all of this up. If it's something that will run for years untouched, you're building an asset. An asset that'll pay you for years to come with little to no maintenance.

    6. You're not selling/pitching/recommending products as an email marketer. You're delivering results. This is important. Don't get caught up in the product and it's features. Tell your subscriber what RESULTS it'll give them. That's all they care about.

    7. Understand EXACTLY who you're talking to. You need to know what they're thinking, what they're deepest, darkest fears are. You need to know all of this BEFORE they get on your list. You gotta be able to attract your most desirable prospect and repel everyone else that you don't want on your list. Trust me, this is a biggie. If you don't weed people out BEFORE they're on your list, they'll drive you frickin' crazy.

    8. No matter how bad you need money, no matter how big of a bonus you stand to make, no matter what your situation... never, I mean NEVER, promote a product just to make a buck. Treat your subscribers as if they were your children or your mother. Protect them as if your life depended on it. They're the lifeblood of your business.

I agree completely with DustonMcGroarty. You have to treat your subscribers like a friend.

Another point- what is your target audience?
      Growing cannabis, medicinal, recreational?

I'm surprised nobody brought this up...

You're in Europe- You could be an affiliate for pot seeds from Amsterdam.

      Just my thoughts,

    Hello,

I was actually thinking of something related recently as I stumbled across the cannabis niche whilst doing some keyword research into indoor gardening. I was wondering if anybody could help me though, as I live in the UK and it's illegal in this country, would I be doing anything illegal by creating a "how to grow cannabis" type website?

  • The easiest way to collect emails is the way to build social community.

If you want computer engineers or electrical engineer's email ids. Then, go to facebook electrical groups and post some job vacancies... Then see many engineers and electricians will give you email ids.

Do it for your particular niche and niche fb group.
