How to avoid people subscribing to free list, when they are already member?

Hey all!

I have a question about Aweber.

I'm using a Facebook ad referring to an opt-in page to receive free videos about my product.
After 7 emails my list has the option to buy the course.
Once the payment is accepted I send them to a page where they have to opt-in again to my members-list.

I use automation to unsubscribe them from my free list, when they subscribe to my members-list.

Now the problem is that many of my members go to my homepage and opt-in AGAIN to my free-list.

I prefer they don't subscribe to both my lists, but only can subscribe to one list, the member-list.

Is there a way to block the opt-in from my free list when they are already on my members list?

Thank you all for your help!

Matthias

    Hi Matthias,

You should contact Aweber support directly, naturally, they know everything about it and would be able to offer you the best answer and guide for that.

I'm sure they have that option.

      Hey Edvisual!

      Thank you for your reply!
I've contacted Aweber and this is what they said:

      Hello Matthias,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

We unfortunately do not have an automated way to ensure that subscribers are blocked from those lists, but you can manually block them using our "Block Subscriber" feature:

      https://help.aweber.com/hc/en-us/art...-A-Subscriber-

If you periodically copied the list of "Unsubscribes" from the Free List into a Block list, those subscribers would not be able to sign up to that Free list again.

I hope that this is helpful! If you have any further questions, or if there is anything else that we can assist you with, please don't hesitate to contact us again!

      Kind regards,

      Sarah D

Well at least they offered that solution. I would need that as well so thanks for the info.

They should implement an automated tool in the future..

Could you modify said automation to also add the user to the blocklist?

I'm sorry and don't want to be critical, but I would NEVER prevent people from signing up to any of my lists. If you are worried about cost, then you are doing something wrong with your email marketing.

It does not matter to me if they sign up multiple times because they see my follow up messages that they may have missed in the past. There are so many reasons why a person my miss out on one of your email campaigns that this is leaving money on the table.

This is the same reason I always send out the same email message to the same lists at least 3 times each message being mostly identical but with different subject lines. It is with the hope that one of the message will get opened and the reader will take the action I want them to take.

Not only will that person who is not delivered the free report or what ever incentive you are giving away to get people to sign up to your list, but you may lose that subscriber from your list because they may just unsubscribe from your list.

At the very least they may use another email address and they are duplicated on your list anyway and you have no way to find them because they used a different email address to subscribe.

I don't do it and it is a bad practice to get into just to save some money. Limiting subscribers is probably costing you more money than you will save.

I hope this has been helpful,
