My website was suspended!

June 13 (!) my safelist mailer was permanently suspended by Hostgator. In their opinion a safelist mailer is spamming process!!!
It doesn't matter that ALL members are double opt-in, that ALL members are according to send and to receive emails from other members.
Probably Hostgator doesn't understand what is a safelist mailer and how it works.
I was forced to take another hosting and to spend some money, for what?
Who is illegal here, me or Hostgator?

One of the reasons you may have had your account closed on hostgator is that safelists can have a large number of bounces. Since you were not on a dedicated server, the bounces use a lot of the server's resources and really slows the server down.

When hostgator sees that you are the cause of a shared server being slowed down they will close your account because your safe list service is slowing the server for other paying customers who are also using the same server you are.

A safe list is the kind of service that will probably require you to get a dedicated server so it does not affect other people's accounts.

That is probably the real reason your account was closed on hostgator.

I hope this has been helpful,

    ^ this

You cannot do that on a shared host. You just hurt a lot of people who depended on their email for your greed.

Get a dedicated server. HostGator will probably let you buy one. Then you can take on the risk without being afraid of being banned and you will not harm anyone in the process.

    Email Policy - HostGator

Who is illegal here, me or Hostgator?
Either their policies were not followed, getting abuse complaints or you're simply sending too much mail. Most hosting platforms are not meant for bulk-mailing, you should really be using a mail delivery service if you want better reliability.

    EDIT:

Shared, reseller, VPS, dedicated etc is not in question here - it' just as easy to have a VPS or dedicated server shut off for mail issues as it is a shared hosting account.

A dedicated server uses no resources from any other client. It is a private server you can do just about anything you want as long as it is within the server's limits.

I run my own autoresponders from my server plus I have an autoresponder service. The only problems I have to deal with is spammers spoofing my email addresses.

To me a VPS can still affect other people's resources. I have never had a VPS so don't know exactly how they function. I just know they are not actually a dedicated server.

In the early days before 2003 I had 4 computers in my basement sending email messages. It was my host that threatened to shut me down by closing my account.

That is just one way I know that the over use of server resources can get you shut down.

I hope this has been helpful,

This most likely isn't a "server resource" problem more so likely it's a "mail policy" problem, which still applies to shared, VPS, dedicated, semi-dedicated, colocation etc etc.

I'd like to know how to make my own server, to be independent, with my own rules, without to be linked by a provider.

Well, the bigger hosts are a bit tricky about this! Making your own server means you are responsible for your servers reputation. it may be safer to choose a host which is a bit more considerate..
