trouble i am having with list segmenting

I have an ecommerce site that i am currently trying to figure out my sales copy for. When they opt in, the email series that they will get is a how-to guide with soft sales for digital products built into the guide. I would like to put them into a different list after they purchase one of the products, removing some of the sales emails and adding some different ones. The problem that I have is, I don't want to remove them from the guide list completely, I just want to alter the guide list a little bit. But if i remove them from the main list and add them to a new altered guide list, I risk putting them into the new list and sending repeat emails because I will be unaware of where they were in the list when they purchased. Does that make sense?

Also, if they repeatedly purchase these same products, would they just be jumping to the first email in that email series every time? or will the person remain where they are in the email series and not be re-entered each time?

The answer to this question will vary wildly depending on your email service ... so, what service are you using?

Aweber makes it easy to segment. The way I have used segmenting is to split test list with different subject lines, or offers. But I generally use ecourses and on the last email I would say something like this in the last message. "name of ecourse. If you would like, consider joining my main list. here is what you will discover...

I don't know any other way to do this. If there is another way, I would like to know as well.

WHEN you are signed up with AWeber you will have answers to many of your questions about segmenting your lists. That's what you were told in the previous thread on this topic.

Would be better to acquire your AWeber acct - go through the segmenting information/instructions - and then ask any specific questions here IF you don't understand.

Or you could google "how to segment your email list" and find loads of articles and tutorials about it. Some of those articles are very detailed about segmenting 4 ways or 8 ways or 27 ways. Many of the "what if" questions you ask are choices you make when segmenting YOUR list.
