Whats your ratio of complaints to unsubscribes

I am just wondering what other people are seeing. I am getting an average of maybe 50/50

Is there anything to do to get people to unsub instead of complain.

I have a big unsub at the top of the email as well as at the bottom of the email.

    Hi K9

When they unsubscribe you lose them forever. By complaining, they are giving you an opportunity to retain their business and feedback on the aspects of your business that aren't working as they should.

I think you should consider their input and improve your business.

    Cheers,

I understand the difference. And I am always trying to make the content more valuable.

I was just wondering what ratio other people are seeing.

So do you see an even ratio. One complaint for one unsub

Or do you see more complaints or more unsubscribes.

I would like to encourage people to unsub before they complain.

What do you mean by "ratio of complaints to unsubscribes".

Do you mean they write to you email with complaint vs unsubscribe, or do you mean they click "spam" button vs unsubscribe.

When I look at the results for a particular email I see the number of complaints and the number of unsubscribes.

For instance an email might have 2 unsubscribes and 2 complaints. For my campaigns those numbers are generally roughly even.

Sometimes I have more unsubscribes and sometimes more complaints. But overall the numbers are roughly even.

Do other people see something different. Like maybe 3 unsubscribes for every 1 complaint?

Note even remotely close to that. Way too high Complaints.

I would first and foremost get a stern hold on that. Or else you
might be in danger of being dropped by your ESP.

Im not necesarily saying they see you as a person without this.

What ratios are you seeing. 1 spam complaint for every 3 unsubscribes?

hey i have almost no complaints. The first and only complaint I ever got was the first broadcast message I sent out and I really do not know what got that person angry lol. alot of people actually responded to that email. and i still do everything the same way.

How are you writing your emails? Are you writing as though you are addressing an audience? or are you writing as though you are talking to one person?

I write an email like im talking to just one person. I think people are less likely to think you are spamming them if you write directly to them, like they are your friend. I think this form of writing is called the "2nd person".

Also when i put links in the email I almost always say "this is a link to what im talking about:" and then put the link on a newline.

overall i think the reason you are getting so many complaints is your writing style. also i think big buttons like "click here" are spammy. but maybe someone else can comment. but i can see how it might increase click through rates.

I guess my question is more the ratio of unsub to complaints.

So if you sent out 10,000 emails. Lets say you get 4 complaints. That would be a relatively acceptable level of complaints (00.04%) regardless of the ratio.

My question is for those 4 complaints are you see 4 unsubscribes or 20 unsubscribes?

I have worked alot of writing emails that people are interested in. And have worked on branding etc. That has helped lower the complaints quite a bit.

The ratio is interesting because I think what drives the ratio is making it easier and easier for people to unsubscribe. And obviously unsubs are preferable to complaints.
