    The biggest piece of advice for you is start building a 100% targeted and quality list. Don't fall into the bigger is always better trap. Again, targeted and qaulity.

      Don't try to sell in every email. Try to build a relationship with your list. Ask them questions, tell them stories, try to relate to them. If you keep bombarding them with promotions they will stop reading your emails and unsubscribe.

      I once paid a few hundred dollars for a solo ad and tried to quickly make my money back by sending affiliate promotions every day. I didn't make a penny. After a few weeks I had had so many people unsubscribe and everybody quit opening my emails. That was an expensive mistake..

        This is the exact same thing an email marketer is doing to me right now... Always sending promotions but no valuable content...

    Do not get into legal trouble and make sure you stay legit. Unfortunately people also sometimes forget that they did actually opt in. There are pitfalls if you are not careful. As far as I know the receiver of email will usually be seen as the victim and will usually be favoured where legal action is concerned. As you can imagine there are a lot of people who do illegal email spamming so society seems to presume by default that you (the marketer) are the guilty party. In reality it was just a case of someone, for example, forgetting that they opted in to an email list.

    These seem to be the main problems that I can think of. The established emailing list guys like Aweber seem to be good at helping people avoid these kinds of issues. It still does not mean they are fool proof though.

    the real downs is that your funnel doesn't convert. Experimentation makes perfection.

      The only downs in email marketing are the ones you make.

      As examples;

      1. Your opt in isn't converting. Well, start testing it to find out why and either make changes or write a new one. But that's not really a down, just part of your job.

      2. Need to test without costs? Easy, make 10 videos on you tube and run the traffic at your opt in. Use that to test before you buy traffic.
      If the opt in stinks, put a new one on the same page and keep the link the same for the traffic flow.

      3. Offers not converting? Don't sell people. Give great info and every once in a while share something that's working for you that you get a commission from.

      My point is; there are no downs except for the ones you choose not to overcome.

        Do you mean the traffic I get from YouTube, I should then direct it to my opt in page and if the first video doesn't work out I should replace it with another...

          Yes, exactly.

          If you're useing word press you can use the pretty links plugin to create one link you can switch out. Or just change the opt in copy/form on that page.

          You tube can provide great traffic. Be sure your video gives good valuable info and you'll get a lot more clicks to your opt in.

    Avoid the trap of emailing your entire list the same news/promotions. More customers are saavy to spam and you will need to be more specific in your promotions and groups that you send emails to. I would heavily recommend that you research marketing automation as it will go a long way in determining the success of your email campaigns.
