Do you send direct mail and telemarket to your list?

I've heard this is a great way to maximize an email list. You get the other details with a free giveaway offer that you "have to mail."

Does anyone do this?

Email (and even IM in general) are notoriously inefficient for sales conversions compared to other methods. To extract maximum value from your lists, it is essential to engage your prospects and customers through as many communication channels as possible. The most successful marketers I know build personal relationships with their lists by escalating interactive communications up to and including social media, telemarketing, direct mail, seminars, face-to-face, etc.

Good to know, thanks. My only concern is that if you have to send something to your list for free in order to get their address, it's going to be quite costly. Even something as small as a physical CD will cost at least three dollars per house I assume.

Or is it possible to sign something of value that fits inside a 1 ounce envelope, first class?

I suggest qualifying your prospects first by selling progressively higher-priced products through Clickbank, Amazon and other affiliate networks. Premature marketing is a waste of time and money.

In my own experience, a self-funding funnel system is perhaps the most effective use of email marketing for screening and qualifying buyers for your flagship products and high-end offers.

Obtaining increasingly more personal contact information from my lists is an ongoing process, not an event. Every transaction should solidify the relationship for additional marketing leverage.
