Is there any disadvantage to putting the free information right in the first email?

If your lead magnet is fairly short in length, say 500 words or less, is it fine to just put it in the first email instead of creating a PDF guide and linking to it?

If this is a bad idea, what are the disadvantages?

well..maybe if it was a video...but I am kind of expecting a pdf when I sign up for an email list. I realize it is the same information, but I think the perception value is greater for a pdf than for one email....

People normally expect a PDF, but as long as your offer is of benefit to your subscriber you will be fine.

No link them to the PDF. You have to train your list from the beginning to click on your links. That will help your clickthrough rate in the longrun.

try to keep your email simple, short and straight to the point... maybe around 100 words or less.... because 500 words kinda too much already....if is me... i will skip that email which contains too long of lines in it...

there are 3 ways you can do that....

one is to post it to your facebook or your fanpage.... then link to your email content, where the users clicks on it... then they will view the information in your facebook's post.

seconds which is what others already mentioned... PDF...

lastly is to post it to your blog page...then link to your email content...(this helps to increase more traffic to your website)

Disadvantages ? Missing out on the fact that it is good to get them in the habit of clicking on Links

Personally, I use a PDF and reserve the first email with the Link to that PDF and a short introduction and also a
Offer ( yes, right off the bat in one of my Niches )

Definitely go with the PDF. Whenever I receive a big email from a marketer, I tend to assume it is a sales pitch and avoid it.. When it is a small email, ( a paragraph or 2) I read it quickly, and if the topic interests me, then download the PDF for later reading.. ,
And if I find the PDF is short and valuable,, that just raises my trust in that marketer, and will be more likely to listen to what they have to say in the future..

Not a bad idea, not recommended either!

1] The perceived value of a PDF report/e-book is much higher than a 500 word article.

2] You have to train them to click on your links in the future.

3] Giving them a PDF via another page allows you to click bank with other partners
by offering their urls and also utilizing the thank you page space.
