How do you build your email lists?

Hi all!

Wondering how you are building your email lists? Do you just publish interesting content and build a group of followers from that, or do you also try to find potential companies manually by browsing websites? What's working best for you?

I'm interested about this as I just launched a site that delivers a daily contact information list of startups with high marketing potetial to your inbox. That means startups that have recently received funding (investments, crowd funding) etc. Would be very interested to hear what you think about it too!

    Solo ads!

Create a funnel that makes more than solo ads cost. Then you can build a massive list for free.

If for every $1 you spend on traffic, you could make $2, how much would you invest?

    Two Steps:
    Create the funnel.
    Send traffic.

I agree, that's a smart way to go about it.

For a while I just focused on creating WSO's and built a list of buyers. I got fed up with the freebie seekers who bought nothing (... I was also crap) from a variety of free giveaway events and my forum signature (... oops).

In a separate niche I get traffic from relatively low cost Kindle books.

In the future I'm going to experiment with more Kindle books, add in some paid traffic and perhaps something on social media.

It's all about time, results (money) and ... er ... results.

Yes. People use the opt-in form on my website and they become my website 'subscribers'.

In my niche, I don't have to. As far as your niche is concerned, I'd suggest you to find companies you are interested to work with and sell ad spots on your website. Charge them for it.

Are you just blasting out e-mails to a list of people/ companies? Since they have not opted to be on your e-mail list (through your e-mail autoresponder form or pop-up), your e-mails may go directly into their spam folder. It's better if you can target there 'hangouts' (can be forums, Facebook, Twitter) and start an ad campaign to grab their attention. Use a bold call-to-action while doing so.

I place my squeeze pages in every possible spot where I can generate free traffic. Each month I substact from profit what HAS to go back into "paid" advertising. And that route of choice is Facebook ads.

Aside from video and textual content that can be found through targeted search engine queries, Facebook ads would target your group superbly.

I'm interested on what is your site about? Is it e-commerce, media site, blog, etc? The thing is that in different cases, different methods might be applied.
For e-commerce sites it is beneficial to insert a pop-up with the registartion form when a customer tries to purchase something from you.
For media sites, blogs, etc - the most usual way is to ask them subscribe and etc.
So yes, to get the best answer, I think you should also share the information of what kind of business you are doing.

wakesam.... there are 2 things you need to build your email list, a webpage (squeezepage) and traffic.

a squeezepage to let them to opt in for your list...

traffic is where they come from.

traffic will be either free traffic, which is kinda slow, and paid traffic for targeted people

i just publish interesting content and build a group of followers through manual, so the work is very boring for me, once a time, i see someone in the blackhatworld forum to recommend botchief to register account automatically, i do not have enough time to have a try, so if you have fabulous time, you can go there

If you go with solo ads you only pay for the click. So when I've used this method I've written the email almost like a sales letter so when they click they are already ready to optin. Solo ads have usually cost me more per optin but they are much more responsive subscribers than most of the other traffic sources.

    I basically just buy data.

These days I'm pretty much just buying targeted real-time or same day data (exclusive and non-exclusive).
The whole trick is to start small with any source and test and make sure you can break-even in a reasonable amount of time.

    Hello,
Here i will share some ways to build an effective email list.

    1. To grow your email list, you have to encourage your existing email subscribers to share and forward your emails by including social sharing buttons and an "Email to a Friend" button in your marketing emails.

    2. Run an online contest that engages your readers. The objective is to ask readers to register for participation with their email address.

    3. If you have very old list then create an opt-in message & send it to your old subscribers list. So, your old subscribers can re-opt-in & remove the contacts who don't respond.

    4. Create a high value lead generation offer -
like a free ebook or whitepaper -- and require visitors to provide their email address in order to download it.

    5. Use simple email signup form on social media channels to make it easy for your followers & fans to easily subscribe to your list.

    6. Generate interesting blog posts regularly. If your posts are awesome, visitors will come back & share their email address to get new blog updates.

    7. Add calls-to-action and URLs in your videos to encourage people to subscribe to your list.

    8. Collect email addresses at offline events like trade shows, business events, meeting and import them into your database.

Hope these ways will help you!

I´m using Facbook ads. The last list building campaign I did I linked the Facebook ad to a squeeze page with an opt-in form. I´ve found that there are quite a lot of buyers on Facebook (especially if you target correctly), not just "freebie-seekers". So, from a ROI perspective it makes sense.

Today, since FB is having a more strict policy on linking to squeeze pages, it might make more sense (and get you a better ROI) to link to a blog article with opt-in forms, then retarget them on Facebook with a link to a squeeze page.

Also, make sure that you have a funnel as well as an email follow-up sequence in place - the goal is to get subscribers and thereby at least break even while building you list.

FB ads - Squeeze Page - Free Giveaway = Signups.

My squeeze pages from FB traffic are currently converting at 30% but im still testing and improving. Im generating 300 names/emails daily for around $50

Plus I have the usual exit popups and Reg Form on my website

I used to build my email list manually in few categories. If I need a business email list, I will segregate inner categories and work hard to collect it through online.

A little trick I used to get some free subscribers is to email my existing list and ask them to share my FB post that talks about my free report. When they share it, their friends see the post and I've gotten subscribers and additional shares that way.

      Hey Davedmille

I also do a similar thing: I put 2-3 motivational pictures in an email and ask them to share their favourite on FB and it also works a treat
