Has anyone tried pay-to-subscribe email lists?

Was wondering if anyone has created email lists where others need to pay to subscribe? I imagine you use such lists to send out special content like referrals, leads, exclusive promotions, etc.

    Yeah, a guy named Andre Chaperon had a paid newsletter before and it was very popular. He really created captivating emails, though.

    I was actually a customer, and considered a purchase that was well worth it at the time.

    probably not what you had in mind...but I deliver my fixed term membership lessons over email..so the folks pay to subscribe to an email list...
