I buy fresh targeted data, but I solely buy it for the purpose of monetizing it using PPL (pay per lead) offers. With PPL, there is no credit card required. All a user has to do is fill out a form for me to make money.

Also when I say targeted, I know what the users are interested in and I know there is a PPL offer that matches their interest. Also, I only buy data where the PPL offer that I can match it with, has some financial aspect to it...has a make, get or save money angle to it. These typically perform best for me. In addition, I have a fairly decent amount of different offers that I can promote...so I'm not just promoting one offer and on the back-end I will promote offers that require a sale, after I break-even on the list cost. I also generate co-reg using the same principle.

I've been doing this for 15 years now and have no plan to ever stop as it works, but it's because of how I do it.

With that said, If you buy a list and only have one product to promote and it requires a sale, it could be much much harder to get conversions. Also, how targeted and fresh is the list...this will be key. My guess is that this is why many say not to buy lists and then you have others that have read that and then preach it as being 100% true.

Anyway, if you decide to do it. I would suggest you buy a small random sample and test it, before spending a bunch of money and then finding out it's a pile of dog crap. This is what I always do with any new data source.

cant say is a bad idea... thats how you get your list to grow fast and it is also depends on who you get the list from, if you get the list from real sellers, good for you then, like what henryw1981 says, do beware of scammers where they will sell you fake clicks. another way of getting your list growing are using free method like forum marketing.. but that is gonna take long long time...

Buying email lists is bad because you don't know how the other person made the list, if they illegally scraped the emails and are trying to sell it to you, and if the list is filled with dead emails or not. The entire concept of buying email lists is spammy and not effective long term.
