Program to automate sending emails for customers who opt in?

Hello, this is probably a newbie question, I have a website and I want to let new customers sign up for a newsletter-online course, once they do so I want I schedule email messages to be sent to to them, I am currently managing this in manual fashion. I'm looking for a scheduling/mailing program that will automate the process. In addition ,for some of the coursework, when I send an assignment, when the customer completes the assignment they are supposed to reply to the the email, and I'd like to automate continuing the course once the reply is received. Any programs out there fit the bill? Thanks

      Hello,
      Thanks for the replies, these all seem like services that charge monthly fees. Is there such a thing as a program or script that can be uploaded to my webhost that will perform these mailing services? (a one time purchase vs. ongoing charges)

    Aweber or Get Response are two of the best auto-responder services out there.
    You need a good auto-responder service that you can rely on and I strongly recommend either of these.

    Hey Lurky,

    Aweber is the best autoresponder. They give great information in the best/easiest format. It only took me about 5mins to use until I felt like a pro. Go ahead and check them out.

    It's free for the first 30 days then $19/month and the pricing scales up depending on how big your list is, but it's $19 until the first 500 subscribers you have.

    Hey lurky, I personally use GetResponse autoresponder. This tool is very easy to use as it integrates well with a ready made opt in forms that you can select when you sign up. You can also create a custom landing page with it. I recommend GetResponse because if you sign up for a paid account, you will get $30 credit bonus.
