Giving away value or charging for value?

This is something that I struggle with a lot but it varies from different thing to different thing that i am working on. I know a lot of internet marketers have built a business on giving away the farm and in return they get trust and are treated as authority.
I found an outdated niche and I have some ideas and models that nobody is really teaching. I want to make it into a book and really capitalize off of it but I am trying to think this thing through. I could make a kindle book and use kindle as my main platform. But the question becomes.... Do I build a blog and blog about these methods and give them away for free all while building an email list? doesn't make much sense if the thing that i would sell to my list is the free information that i already gave them. I could get affiliate sales through giving away the methods but i'm really not sure that would be the smartest way to go... could I make more through a book? The question then becomes if I sell a book, where do I get my traffic? not sure if I would have enought content to be comfortable if I really pack the book with lots of information. doesn't make much sense to blog the exact info in your book does it? should i make it into a book and just let the kindle platform be my traffic? thanks in advance guys. any thoughts or ideas are welcome.
I think that if i put this info out on youtube, I could make some big waves and some big affiliate money. If I make a video about this.... does that contradict puting out a book? or should I make a video and then at the end of the video tell everyone they can buy all the info in the form of a book on kindle.
Should I be creating an email list for this no question? or should I put the book on kindle and let it do its thing?

    I'd say give away enough value so it's really tempting for visitors to opt-in. Maybe if what your teaching has 2 steps like Firness for example. You can give away all your "Healthy Eating" tips and tricks and then you can charge for a fitness plan.

    You want to give away enough value for them finding it hard to turn down your free offer, but you don't want to give away everything unless your income is through ads.

    I'd try and see if you can split up the niche into 2 parts and give the less lucrative part (but still valuable) away for free then later mention your other product to them and kind of day that they learned the half of the full picture and now here the other half and I have it here for $19.99 or $67 depending on what it is and see how that works.

    Remember online marketing is about guess & check. Setup a system, drive traffic to it. Wait until they all reach the end of the funnel and take account your results.

    Then after they all funnel through see if you can enhance something and let them funnel through again and rinse & repeat.
