Honestly, what is YOUR average open rate?

Hey, it's Isaiah Jackson -

And I was reading a thread earlier that asked
about what the average open rate is for emails.

It seemed that the average number was about 10%

But lets be honest here, how many of us are really
get a 10% open rate?

If I mail one list inside of my Aweber account
(meaning just the one list selected) I'll average
about 14-15% open rate easy...

However if I include all my other lists inside of
Aweber in that email then the numbers drop
to about 5-6% open rate...

So I'm curious what are you average email open
rates?

Have you tried mailing each list one at a time to see
if they were higher or lower?

Thoughts?

Isaiah Jackson.

    Hey Nice question man,
Well it totally depends as where the traffic comes from and are you providing good value and is your emails written good enough....

The main subject of the email is what gets good open rate
another thing that got me more open rates was a bridge page....

Im getting on on average 35/40% open rate which is very good.

When i started new i was getting around 15% but after mastering how to email correctly i managed to grow my list faster and get more open rates by tweaking the subject lines and adding a Bridge page....

      Hey There,

I'd say it really all depends on your list and where you get your traffic from.. Like my traffic I get from forum marketing seems to be a lot more reponsive then some of my PPC campaigns because I feel like they signup for the moment and then forget it 5 minutes later

So I tend to forum marketing much more. And subject headlines play a HUGE role in it as well.

Right now my open rate is at roughly 25-26% with a little bit of a drop off as it goes down the followup series, but that is to be as expected.

Just my statisitcs, but I'm definitely interested to know everyone's & maybe some techniques to increase opens!

      Have a great day, Adam

it also depends in your niche... but of course you have to test and create a relationship with your list.

My open rate is kept rather high by regularly culling lists of dead weight and chronically unresponsive subscribers.

Yo Adam, that actually makes a lot of sense.

Reason being is because they are already exposed to who
you are before they even have the chance to see any of your
        landing pages

So yeah, they will be a bit more responsive than the cold traffic
you will get from PPC ads.

Also, I guess I should have been more specific by saying what
is your open rate for your broadcast emails.

Well, yeah niche does play a role.

In general for this post I was talking about those of us
who have lists in the IM (internet marketing) niche.

I assume you mean "killing" off the dead weight and deleting
        the unresponsive subscribers.

I do this once every three months, if someone has been on my
list for at least 90 days and haven't opened a single email then
I just say good bye to them.

Actually "culling" the dead weight seems to be quite adequate, and is much kinder.

    Cold email: 40 - 50% open rate across 3 - 5 email sequences

My email list (quite small at the moment): 65% average

I don't email my email list often and when I do it's with content that is valuable to them.

normal average open rate will be around 30-40%, if you can get that high... then is very good already

as for me... i used to get around 5 ( poor email marketing that time) and then now if i sent the emails to that list... i get around 1 due to didnt email to them for some time... so i urge you guys.. to remember send emails to your subscribers... let them remember you...

if not, your list will going to waste

      How many subscribers?

      Curious minds wants to know.

How big is your list currently?

And have you tried including promotions
      within your content?

In what niche did you build your list in?

Also you are right, but it does depend on where and how you
      built your list.

I know people who have lists as high as 50K subscribers
in the IM niche and can only get like a 2% open rate with them.

I also know people who have lists in the same niche that are
much smaller around 1k - 2k and can get around 25% open
      rate.

Another factor to consider is your position in the marketplace.

Take Frank Kern for example, he can get away with not
emailing his list for quite a while, then decide to email
them once and I'm sure his open rate would be through
      the roof.

Another example: Take Eminem who is the highest selling
      hip-hop artist to date.

      Leaves for 4 years.

Comes back and drops an album and sells millions.

I know this is about email marketing but it further illustrates
the point of positioning in the marketplace
