Can I do something with 60,000 email addresses

First post to the forum so be gentle please. I posted this in another part of the forum but it should have been posted here.

I have a UK client who has 60,000 customer email addresses gathered over the last few years. They want to commercialise the list but don't know where to start. I appreciate that some of the hard work has been done building the mailing list, but I don't know for sure that this is the sort of numbers that will generate the revenues necessary to justify the resource investment.

They are not in retail and have never sent anything other than a basic crappy newsletter in the past and I am now tasked with the job of growing and commercialising the list as their core market is tough going at the moment. (Recruitment). They have opt-in permission.

Am I right in thinking that a carefully constructed campaign will see revenue generation from what will ultimately become a cut down version of this list?

Any advice, ideas or pointers welcome thanks very much!

Jeff

what a question. you can do a lot with such an email list. without wasting time, keep them engaged by sending something useful.

    Hi,

If your list quality is good then you can do following

    1. Install a Hosted email app like interspire on a VPS server
    2. Get SMTP relay service from a reliable SMTP provider
    3. Send emails to those leads via SMTP

Now chances are that your list might be aged and may have lot of bad data

So you need to make sure you get your list cleaned first and remove all bad addresses. Otherwise your SMTP provider might shut you down

Alternatively you can use a hosted service that allows you to import the data

is there a particular service you use to clean your list? I have a fairly large list too that I'd like to clean to get all the bad ones out.

@massmailresponse what SMTP would you recommend?

On the safe side, take the last 3 months of data, clean it and mail it out. Only keep mailing the openers. Clean out the bounces/complaints/non-responsive people.

On the not so safe side (and much more expensive), clean all the data and mail it out. I'd suggest doing this very slowly and sending the first email with very safe ad copy. I would send them an email telling them how/why you are mailing them, and go from there (with only the active people).

      Good luck!

I would definitely recommend adding them to a bulk sending service asap ..
    as SendGrid ..

But before, they should be interested in what you're offering ..
So we don't waste our valuable time here ..

Then, You will try to "re-animate" this thing ..
    Always Start by a Welcome/Introduction email ..
Tell them who you are, what you're offering, and how often are you mailing, and "The Value Package" ..
Tell them there the free info you're offering
And it better be some kicka$$ value !
    Watch to know more ..

Then You will email them 3 times with some value packed ..
(I should always remind you to stay always relevant to your niche)

Then, you should segment the list, by interest.

"So if you're into internet marketing, you could be looking for Email Marketing info, if someone mails you with some MLM stuff, you'd just ignore it .. " See what I'm pointing at ?

So, send an email disscussing one topic of your niche, then add all people who open the email to a new list which has ONLY content related to that topic.

--> Delete unresponsive emails who never open your emails ..

Only do promotions of really good products (if they're yours, you'd better make them as good as if you're the buyer) ..
Always Send valuable content, before & after promoting ..

I hope this makes sense to you
if you have any further questions, just post them here, and I will be glad to answer them :-)

  • Hi Jaffster65 congratulations on getting this project of taking care and growing the subscribers. Am sure you will take it to the next level. Without being overwhelmed by the number, send a nice, "non-selling" informative and re-connecting email, track the open rate, responses and dead emails. sort accordingly. Next use a great self hosted email marketing service good for large volume emails. This will help you a great deal sending nice customised, relevant and and attractive emails, manage the email lists, send good autoresponders, process the bounce and trash emails automatically and even help you grow email list with options. I could enjoy all these benefits with Ariticmail. Now all I have to think about is working on my fashion products.

I am currently running a cpa program to promote my 'lifehacks' blog that shares the newest ideas on how to do things differently to reach your goals faster.

Examples include 'How to Earn Money From Your Random Facebook Posts that You're Posting Anyway' and 'How to Get Youtube Views and Adsense Clicks Instantly'

I'll be paying USD 1.00 for every person from USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada that registers with their email address on my blog optin page. I'll send you a tracking link with live stats that we can both see and I'll pay you via Paypal on the 1st and 15th of each month.

All you have to do is send out an email to your subscribers with this tracking link. I can guide you along.

Drop Me a Message if this sounds good to you.

      Cheers!

      Kelvin

P.S. Let Me Know if You Still Haven't Found a Suitable Mailing Solution and I Can Help You Out With That Too. I see many great responses above with regards to that, so I thought I would help out with the easiest way to monetize the list.

Offer a membership site at a low entry level to start with newsletter and updates.
One thing not to do in the process is to Spam the crap outa them to make a quick Buck.

Like sometimes when I buy something from a vendor or even from this forum, and next thing I get about 5 or 7 emails a day he is trying to sell me other peoples stuff. Its a real bad habit some of the real known gurus even have. So I unsubscribe them right away as a result.

you can sell it in Fiverr. Before doing so, you need to clean up the list otherwise you will be blacklisted.

you've got some great info here on how to properly mail the people and clean the list.
i've heard great things about Sendgrid. Also, you might want to try 'reactivating' that list by sending them emails that 'warm them up' again.. I think frank kern has some course on this?

    Some very good suggestions here.
Cleaning up the list is one but it also depends on the age of the list and also the niche it is in.
I would immediately start engaging the list by sending out some good value. Monetizing will so so much easier with a responsive list and also one that trusts you ie list the content rich emails that you send out. Don't forget some freebies ;-)
