Fake Aweber Subscribers??!

I've been getting a lot of new subscribers lately, like 1 or 2 a day, sometimes more, in the last month. I was thinking it was because I have a fitness site and the end of the year resolutions are sparking this but upon looking closer, I'm pretty suspicious.

First, most follow the same type of naming convention. First name, Last name, initial caps, then a number. Here are some examples:

Many of the URLs are also the same format:
developer.mothere.com
good.levening.com
eat.remailled.com

What the heck. These are obviously fake. Also, they are subscribing by going to my Login page and supposedly hitting the right sidebar widget: Login/Profile - Lose or Gain - 10 Pounds in 30 Days!

Why the hell would they go to that page?? ALL OF THEM. That right sidebar widget is not accessible from phones so supposedly they are all on desktops.

Any clues? Should I cancel freaking aweber and save $20/month??!

thanks for your knowledge.

Have you checked IPs ? Because Aweber prevent multiple sign ups from same IP ?

try mailing them and see if some/any open your emails and take action on your offer. Could help, but I never had that issue

You can use the confirmed opt-in or double opt-in function in your autoresponder to filter those fake subscribers. With opt-in or double opt-in function, any people who enter their name and email would receive an email with subscription confirmation link and he/she needs to click on the subscription link to confirmed before they would become your subscriber list.

As David said, you should be using double opt-in to prevent any spam or fake emails, especially when it comes to website forms (since they're more exposed)

Send some emails and see how the subscribers respond. If they're dead weight, then delete them and turn on double opt-in. Not sure why you see this as an Aweber issue, this is clearly a problem with your form and list settings from your end.

Double opt-in will decrease the subscribers considerably. My suggestion is to get their IPs and block it on wordfence or better , server firewall. If this fails , well , no other solution than using confirmed opt-in.
