Do people resent the switch from "giving value" to requesting payment? What is your experience?

I'm convinced by the "give before you get" concept.

I have a three step "self help" process in a very particular niche.

I've been building a funnel, starting with a free webinar (though I may change that) followed up with a very valuable autoresponder series of about 8 messages over the course of four weeks that takes my people from zero through the first step.

I've not mentioned a word of selling anything - it's all been give, give, give. I'm about midway through the 8 message series for my first group.

Here's my concern -- I've worked so hard to help "my people" (and I do think of them that way) and they're so invested in what I'm doing that when I request payment for steps 2 and 3, I'm worried they'll revolt and be resentful.

Any thoughts on this?

Do you resent marketing emails you get in your inbox ? Or you just ignore/delete it ? Why would they (hate you) ? Would your friend hate you because you offered him your product ? Maybe if you bombarded them with sales emails . But there is nothing wrong with offering a paid relevant product. If you give a good value they might be glad to buy and in worst case scenario they will just ignore it.

P.S : 8 emails is too long without offering a paid product. 4-5 is enough

      Thanks for the feedback.

As for the number of emails, I've heard SO MANY different opinions on that. Right now I'm thinking of offering a very low cost "premium" version of my free content pretty much from day one (not done yet), and then running the 8 mail series to a product in the $50 range.

Happy to be told I'm wrong though... thoughts?

There are also mixed opinions about selling at first email or at thank you page. Some marketers here advocates this. But others , including me believe that you have only one chance to make a first impression.
Earn their trust and make them like you first then sell at 4th or 5th email. Because when you ask for their money from day one , they will raise their defenses and you may get lower engagement with your emails. IMHO
