Advice sought on email hosting

I hope this is the right place to ask this, as although it's to do with email it's not to do with email marketing particularly.

I'm trying to find out if it's possible to set up an email address hosting service (think gmail but micro-sized) for a group of people who share a common interest or hobby.

If it is possible, where would I find out how to do this? Are there places offering this to internet marketers?

I know that domain hosting services will allow me to have a certain number of email addresses for a particular domain, but these are obviously going to be more limited in the number of emails a member can send out or store.

I hope it's clear what I'm trying to find out, and thanks in anticipation for all comments.

Not sure if this will help but check out Zoho Mail - Just google them for the site. I have used them in the past and they are one of the best email hosting companies out there. Even their free version is pretty good.

That sounds great, rayden. Thanks. Since posting I've come across three sites that I think might be what I have in mind. The only thing is, one is much more inexpensive than the others and I'm not sure they're offering the same as the others. Do you know what I should be looking for? Or does anyone else? Anyway, thanks again. I really appreciate your time.

YNOT Mail sounds like it might be an option for you.

Some of these companies are just using a copy of Interspier and are sending out emails in the blind - it's not going to work too well. You want a real company that will handle complaints, issues with IP Addresses, and have a system in place to get your emails into inboxes - not just blindly sending out bulk email.

Thanks, Rochard. I can see that would be important.

I checked out ynot, Richard, and I think I may have confused readers with the form of my question. What I am actually looking for is a site that provides email addresses for members of my group, under my relevant domain name, rather than an email listing and sending service like AWeber. I know that hosting services like HostGator provide a certain number of mail addresses for a domain, but probably not as many as I hope to need.

Anyway, I'm on the trail now of a couple of places that might be what I want, so thanks again to you and the others who responded so swiftly.

I suppose it does not have to be postini spam filtering, but it needs to be really, really good.

Thanks to you too, mysuccess. I wouldn't have thought of that aspect myself, so all this is very helpful.
