Best Way to Invite Active Subscribers to a New VIP Mailing List

Hi all. I'm coming at this as an author (just to give you a point of reference), and I've been building a modest-sized mailing list from which I'd like to promote my books as they're published. In addition, I'm interested in taking the most interested, active participants on my list (for example, people who open and click on all my mailings), and moving them into a new, VIP list.

The purpose of the new list is not to promote the books, per se, but rather to offer advanced copies for free in order to drum up reviews, get more social media buzz, that sort of thing. More of a "street team" for book launches than a regular mailing list.

I know I could just separate the active members and start mailing them accordingly, but I'm wondering if it'd be better to invite them in. I'm thinking that would target even further those who are really interested in playing, but I'm not too experienced with these things so perhaps I'm way off?

Is it a good idea to invite them to sign up to a new, VIP list? If so, should I just ask them to email me with an "I'm in" sort of reply? Or would a landing page be more appropriate? What sort of additional info should I request, if any? Right now, I've only been gathering email addresses, but to personalize the VIP list I thought maybe I should ask for first and last names (or maybe first names only?). Would such a request just drive away privacy-minded folks who might otherwise have participated? Is there much of an advantage to referring to members by name when it comes to future mailings?

Anyway, just looking for thoughts and conversation about this. I'm not going forward with it right away, so there's time for me to figure out the best way to go. I made a mock-up landing page just to kick around some ideas: Invitation To Join Dave Haskell’s VIP Gold Club | David Haskell -- if you have any suggestions on that front (or if you think it's a bad idea I should scrap altogether!) please have at it.

Thanks in advance everyone. I've gotten some awesome feedback from this forum so far, and I really appreciate all of it!

Invite them to sign up for your VIP mailing list instead of adding them yourself.
That way you will get people who are actually interested in the books you
are promoting. A landing page would
make it easier for you and for those who are interested to sign up.
If you do not need any extra information from them, then no need to ask for
it. I don't think a lot of people would ind being asked their first and last names, so I think
this will not put people off. Your landing page looks amazing, I would recommend you keep it.

    Hi DaveinJapan,
I would suggest you place most of the text on your landing page in your request emails.

This way you are bound to get the actual readers and you can have much less on the actual page.

Maybe keep the free book offer for the page as a surprise when they get there as a bit more incentive.

Great landing page anyway... Thrive Themes me thinks!

    cheers, Mal.
