Would you consider buying an email list from an Email List Provider?

I worked in ContactDB, an email list provider based in USA, and I would like to know more what other people are thinking towards buying list online.

Buying an email list is actually not recommended. I personally wouldn't do it but I know many marketers do end up buying lists and it is still a huge business selling emails online.

If it is a reputable email list provider then i think there is nothing wrong with buying a list but i believe you are assured of a better quality list if you create your own list from scratch as you can determine the source.

I've been in the data monetization business for 16+ years. Which is very different from someone buying a list to try and sell a specific product or service. So I'm always open to new sources.

However, I find the large data providers prices are way over priced. So I tend to work with small data brokers, end users, and directly with companies that are generating fresh data.

Feel free to PM me with what you have available (B2C) and pricing and I will at least consider it.

I would never buy an email list. All you're doing is paying for a list of people to spam. It certainly wont translate to meaningful numbers, and if anything, will likely only hurt your reputation.

I know a lot of people in this section are very against purchasing 3rd party lists and say its not a profitable business model. I have personal friends who generate hundreds of thousands of dollars a month using this very model, which is all within the confines of being legal as well.

Just because 3rd party data might not be in the moral compass of many, do not discredit is as a viable business model as long as you work within the rules and regulation of mass emailing.

Saying people who run third party data are not making money is simply a lie. These guys are making a lot more then you are.

I have been saying this for years and have been doing it for 16+ years. If I said how much money I have generated doing it, I have no doubt everyone would say I'm lying.

Yet, most still tell everyone to never buy a list, probably because they read it and now tout it as truth. Or they purchased a list for the wrong reason or didn't know what they were doing.

Now I'm not saying it's right for everyone, as there is an exact business model you have to follow and it's not what most people look to buy lists for.

Yes you correct. Buying list might work for other companies and not for some. It depends on how they utilized the list for their benefit.

Though partly correct, spammers are everywhere, but let us accept that NOT ALL emails that ended in Spam Folder are all spam. On the other side, you might still be seeing spammy emails right in your inbox. How come spam filters did not detect it?

Have you been wondering why is it that buying Email List is a no-no but there are quite several companies that solely offer Email List services to their customers and are successful and still standing for decades or more? Examples are Data Connect, ZoomInfo and of course, ContactDB (where I currently work) and many to mention.

It’s true â€" a lot of the information available on buying email lists is negative.
But when implemented properly, it can generate quality leads for your business. Not only working with a reputable data provider but having the right software to send your emails is imperative for a successful campaign!
