Send emails ourselves? Or use a service like Mailchimp or Sendgrid?

We are a small company that typically sends out < 10,000 emails each month. We have a new client (an extremely large multinational corporation) that wants us to email a portion of their customer base (just under 100,000) on their behalf. These are people who agreed to receive email.

As we haven't had to send that much email before, we're wondering if we should send it ourselves or use a service like Sendgrid or Mailchimp.

Our initial test, however, resulted in a bounce rate of 15%, which is fairly high. I believe that this would result in us being banned by Sendgrid or Mailchimp.

So if that is not an option, we will send them ourselves. But if we suddenly start sending out 100,000 emails in the course of a day or two, will we be pegged as spammers?

How would you suggest we approach this?

Thanks for any input.

PS: For clarification, we aren't talking about emailing product solicitations to people. We do focus groups on behalf of companies and we pay people to give their opinion about their products. The people invited to each product study are paid well for their time.

I think using some service sis good. mailchap is good for email marketing and list building. You can use that service. We have sued them and had a great experience. Perfect for list building and sending newletters. There is some wordpress plugins also, like mailpoet as well.

@DanielTony, I think you must have missed the part about the 15% bounce rate.

@powermta kudos, I think that's a somewhat self-serving answer given your private message to me.

To any who may stumble across this, we wrote our own internal solution to send throttled emails over the course of a few days. Seems to be working fine.

Well, I don't recommend to send emails by yourself, you will be the cause to ban your ISP if you get flagged as a spammer, but instead you should use autoresponders like Mailchimp, Getresponse or Aweber for better reaching out your customers.

Here are the main reasons you should setup autoresponder service for your company:

    1) You stay in touch with your customers (automation workflow/broadcast).
    2) Convert first-time website visitors into loyal subscribers with a series of sequential emails.
    3) You can increase engagement through updates and newsletters.
    4) Autoresponders services provide a special tracking system which let you get stats such as open rates, clicks. traffic insights...etc.

I wish you best of luck
