Trading email lists...any experience?

My company has a little over 1 million email addresses that we've acquired over the past few years of people based in the USA who like to receive reminders to check for updated auto & health insurance quotes. We're interested in the possibility of trading lists with someone in a related field.

First, does anyone have general experience in trading lists with others? I imagine you'd need to test each other's lists in small amounts to determine that it wasn't a fake/bought list and actually performs well.

    Why do you need to trade lists?
    You can focus on monetizing your list instead of doing swaps and reduce your open rates.

      To expand our database while expanding someone else's. Think of it as 2 hunting ranches...instead of only having my ranch to hunt, why not have another property as well if it's the same or better value.

    I don't think it is a good idea to trade lists. What you want to do is have them email there list an email to optin to your list and vice versa you do it for them. I am pretty sure trading lists would be illegal, I may be wrong though
