Should I put my readers on a general list as well as a niche list?

I just wrote a blog post about health and I thought it would be a good idea to encourage them to sign up for my health (niche) e-mail list.

But then I thought to myself, "It'd be nice if they were on my general e-mail list, too."

So... is this a good idea or a bad idea?

And if it's a good idea, is there an easy way to do it?

(Or perhaps services like Aweber and MailChimp make it easy to "e-mail everybody", thereby making this whole thing unnecessary?)

Hey James, I'd advise against putting people onto any lists they don't show an active interest in.

If someone signs up to your list to learn how they can improve your health, you better make sure that's all they're getting emails about, lest they report you for spamming.

Also, you want to be cautious about putting people on lists they never signed up for in the first place, even if it's in the same niche, as you run the risk of losing your autoresponder service if someone complains and your service provider sees that you're adding people without their permission.

One last thing... "health" isn't a niche, it's too broad a topic to be considered that.

What about health? Diet, exercise, medication?

I suggest you niche it down to something like, "how to have a healthy diet" at the very least.

If you want to take it another step further, you can focus on "how to have a healthy diet as a senior citizen" or something similar.

    Daniel
