Sell Solo-Ad's or Promote products

So I have a list and I have 2 options..

Sell Solo-Ad's or Promote products.

Of course I can mix both but which would you do more if you had the option to scale?

- Selling solo's means - guaranteed $ but my list gets diluted.
- Promoting affiliate products - I could do well or not do well so there's that risk.

So which option would you take?

Thanks,
John

I'm a big mailer, so I have looked into this as a possible alternate income stream. However, what I found is that I typically generate higher EPC's from promoting offers, compared to what I could charge per click to send solo ads. Also if you sell solo ads, you have to have clients that will actually buy them. Where with sending offers, you can mail as often as you want. So in the end, I decide it was not a viable option for me.

One note. I heavily promote PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers and for a user to complete an offer therir is no credit card / purchase required. All a user has to do is fill out a form. So conversion rates rates are typically much higher than offers that require a purchase. So this was probably a large contributing factor, which may not apply to you.

      Diablo,

Pretty great insight! I wonder if you tune into an ad network of PPL offers to get a constant stream of those offers.
My list (still small, 12k subs) is in the PD niche and I always had the hunch of what you're saying. Now that I read it from you, it makes total sense (that's best to email offers, instead of selling solo ads. And that PPL offers are better than PPS ones). Thanks!

I do both. I make most of my money promoting products and add to the bottom line selling solo ads.

From my experience and reading i have figured that one should mix and match. If you have clients that are willing to buy solo ads then go ahead. Otherwise promotional stuff brings in more EPC than the fee i could earn on each click of solo ads

I do both but i agree with Diablo. If you cannot get consistence results from affiliate offers... promote CPL offers
