BREAKDOWN: What are the different ways you can scale your emails?

I'm going to be using Facebook Advertising to drive traffic to an landing page for an email opt in.

Here's the challenge I'm running into.

I'm going to be targeting mainly two different ways.

#1. I'm going to be targeting super targeting in my ads. The email subscribers per $1 is going to be higher but the open rates will be higher.

#2. I'm going to be targeting very broad and so the email subscribers are going to be higher but the open rates may not be as high.

With this being said assuming the I have two different email optin lists how would I figure out how to scale to see which ads campaigns I'm running are brining in a higher ROI ?

From what I know measuring ROI in the long term after subscribers optin isn't so easy.

Why not try running 2 ads to 2 different lists (1 super targetted and 1 not so much) and track and see? If you're doing FB Ad's you'd want to start with a small budget anyway to track so try to do 2 ads concurrently to see how it goes.

IMHO though it you're looking to build a list - it's always better to build a less targetted bigger list because you can always segment them later.
Tiny list big profits? I'd rather have a big list with avg profits.
    And optimize later.

Instead of a split test, I would recommend just testing the higher quality but lower volume traffic first. If that doesn't provide a positive ROI then you know the lower quality traffic won't either.

    Good luck!
