Components of a Great Squeeze Page

The point of a great squeeze page is to...squeeze every drop of value you can out of your visitors by capturing tons of e-mails that you can add to your marketing list. I'm doing some research into squeeze pages and trying to design a great process for designing them and I'm hoping to incorporate some feedback from all of you great folks. Here's what I have so far:

1. Make it short and simple - People want to be able to see everything above the fold, and having a big long page that people have to scroll through to find the email submit button is going to hurt conversions for you. Any extra hoop that people have to jump through in order to do your call to action is another chance for you to lose the potential customer.

2. Attention-grabbing headline - Obviously you need to get this person's attention right at the beginning of the page, and this header needs to be geared heavily towards your target market and what they are looking for. For the MMO niche, your target market could be stay-at-home moms that are looking to earn a few hundred dollars per month extra, or it could be young male college students that want to drive a Ferrari. Style your header content accordingly for the best results and do testing.

3. Hit them in the feels - People buy for emotional reasons and then justify the purchase using logic. For example, the college student mentioned above might think "I want to show that I'm better than my peers, I want people to see me driving a brand new car and the status that comes with that. I want to be a business owner and this is going to show me how to do that." In this case, your sales page is influencing their emotional state and then they say "I can justify spending $99 on something that's going to give me all of these emotional benefits".

4. Remove conversion barriers - What I found was that it's important to remove any potential barriers to conversion that might exist on your website - because this isn't an in-person sale, you won't have the opportunity to overcome objections so it's critical that you create as few and address as many as possible in your presentation of the product on your page. If all you're asking for is an e-mail address, this should be relatively straight-forward.

What else am I missing? What techniques have you guys used in the past to implement successful squeeze pages? Please let me know in the comments section!

One method is to split test. Create two squeese pages and split test them. You can create different headlines or even different emails to see what works best. When you have a winner, use that squeese page.

I've heard a lot about split testing and I know that it's really important. I guess that applies to Hilaludin's point as well, we want to write the most powerful emotional message that we can so by split testing we can start to get a handle on what works and what method converts the most.

People remember to list benefits in their sales pages but forget to do the same in their squeeze pages. That's the most common mistake I have noticed..

I don't recommend creating a long list of benefits - but a shorter, succinct, and emotion-stricken benefits give that one last push needed for higher opt-ins.

So, instead of listing FEATURES of your Free ebook, focus more on the benefits and you are all good and butter.

Yes! They definitely do. When creating a squeeze page, think like a consumer. What makes you buy? If you were the one who needs a product like this, what specific emotions would go through your head to convince you to purchase? Convince people that they NEED your product and that it will make their lives better and easier!

That's a great point desiree, and something I just recently realized. A lot of people don't understand demographics, they just go "Well I would never buy that", but there are so many products that people will buy if you put it in front of the right person with the right messaging. You have to understand what people are feeling.

For example, if you're in the weight loss niche, most people would pay $x,xxx if you could snap your fingers and make them lose 20lbs, without even a question. That being said, your task is to show them that your product is the closest thing possible to a finger-snap solution and that if they'll just buy it you'll make the problem go away. These are real hot button issues for the folks affected by them and if you know how to tap into that you can make a great squeeze page.
