Would IP Changing fool Hubspot?

Hi, I recently tried Hubspot's sales tool, and I must say it's awesome. But, I found out that I can see who opens my email and where he's located. I guess it's tracking the IP, so I bought Ivacy VPN assuming that when I change my IP, the recipient can't track my actual location. My question is; is my assumption right?

    Hi Adam,

There are a number of ways a tool like Hubspot can determine your location, one of which is your IP address. Another option would asking your browser where you are (you'd have to grant permission on this). Google "turn off location sharing <browser>" with the name of your preferred browser to learn how to manage these permissions.

Another option open to people to geographically locate you via your email address is to query your email address in various services like facebook and linkedin. I believe there are APIs out there that will let a service like hubspot get information on an email address holder.

Now, to specifically address your question about HubSpot. I don't know for certain what their internal tracking looks like, but it is most likely just based on IP address. Using a VPN to change your IP will probably confuse their tracking tech and place you at wherever the VPN outpoint is.

Often resetting your router and using a private or incognito tab is all you need to fool a website into a thinking you are a different user in the same city.

First if you use VPN it's true that it will mask your current IP and all the traffic goes through theirs, but it's all dependent on your browser and VPN. First don't use same browser you have used before to login to the service, because the cookies might still be there and it's possible that they can track you, either clean everything and start new or use different browser. Second not all VPN mask it fully, so you need to ask around forums which VPN provides full masking, because there are services that do not fully mask and leak your real IP.
