What should I put in my emails to my list?

I have built up a list in the make money online niche.

I was to promote products to my list but do not want to appear too pushy and lose subscribers. Is there a way of promoting stuff without seeming nakedly hard sell?

You need to make your emails interesting and entertaining with an eye catching headline.

People are fed up with "buy this" emails. That is really old hat. You need to have a headline that attracts attentions and a story within the email. Something that is in the news is great. You then need to connect with your subscribers pain. It could be that their graphics on their website are not up to scratch. Using the story weave in how the product that you are promoting will cure their graphics problem and make them more sales.

Make what you are sending both entertaining and informative.

How long should my emails be? Will I lose people if my emails are too long?

Accept the idea that to make a profit from your list, you will lose subscribers.

There are no definite answers to your question.

I've worked with over a hundred email lists, all with success --actually if your list is made through your blog, which is what I always advise my customers there is no way to lose money. The most successful model --that fits almost every niche-- is sending a Newsletter with links to your latest posts regularly and small, decent newsletters where you will try different things till you find what works best --the ones that produce the best opens and clicks rates. Also, always check how your emails appear in mobiles and tablets. The most common reason why someone will leave your list or turns to be inactive is when he can't easily read your emails to his mobile/tablet.

At some point people will unsubscribe. It is best to try to get your quality message out. It is wise to let them know up front that you are selling stuff or recommending stuff so they aren't shocked when you give them weeks of free info and then ask for money. You have to train your list from the get go. A great way to avoid "selling" while still selling is suggesting products that will help them, but that are free with an upgrade or free on a trial basis. Then the upsell comes later and they have time to prepare for it. I suggest trying to sell a small product on the font end thank you page. Something 5-20 dollars. This helps to see who the buyers are. If you try and sell something and they unsubscribe, they were never buyers and were never going to help you. There are a lot of freebie seekers and in a way its good to get them off your list unless you are running a charity instead of a business.
