How important is email marketing compared to youtube vlogging?

I feel like nobody would want to read emails if there are video content on youtube for the same product. Should I start a email list along with my youtube vlog anyways? I'm trying to justify the time and energy I will have to spend in creating written content on top of making my video content and just popping affiliate links in the video description box on youtube. What are the benefits of having a email list and how do I justify the time and energy spend on it? What can an email list do that a pure video content on youtube can't?

    There's no comparison.

The only reason you make videos
should be to build a list (Other wise
you are nothing more than an unpaid
    Google employee.)

People check their email before they watch
    You tube videos.

Can you release youtube-videos as fast as you can send e-mails?

I would refer vlogging, people tend to see the videos than other actions such as read email or read inbox,...

Firstly why are you comparing the two things? Secondly, how will people get to know you have created a video. SO, you can utilize both email and video to deliver your message. Send an email to your entire database informing them to go through your video. So, email will work as a teaser, while the actual message can be delivered through video. Sounds good?

The two work hand in hand. It is true that people check their email first, and also, video monetization, when done well can also be a good source of quality traffic and subsequent conversions.

YouTube is great for building a following - but it takes time and requires a lot of good content development.
Emails are quick to make and get your subject across just as fast.

I've heard people of late saying email is dead. They obviously aren't list building and emailing correctly.

Try asking guys like Ben Settle if emails dead.

Email will always be around, you just have to get smarter than the average marketer and build a good relationship through video, with your viewers.

Video is brilliant for building relationships ad as mentioned above; your main aim is to use video to build your list and then to mail your list often with edutaining emails.

Not pitch after pitch without any value or entertainment.

    Good luck

Another thing about You Tube videos is
that you have to - Ahem - look good on
camera. You also need to make decent
    looking videos i.e. production values.

Email is still is lot simpler at the end of
    the day.

In many instances most people do not even put their faces on camera. They do powerpoint type presentations. Or on site videos

It is not a necessity to be effective

IMO more people read emails than go to youtube to view videos.

Instead of comparing them, why not just do both?

YouTube is how you build instant rapport with people. YouTube is about to overtake Google as the number one search engine with "How To" searches being the number one in search.

Once people know who you are, they will start to like you, once they like you, they will trust you with their email address.

This is where you send valuable information that will solve problems for them. This is how people will eventually buy from you!
