Growing a list off of a twitter page

So I currently run a twitter page that has 125k followers. Obviously I don't have the engagement of 125k people because of the way twitter works but I still view it as an asset. I'm concerned that one day Twitter could decide to ban my account for whatever reason. If that were to happen all my time and work growing the page would be completely destroyed and I'd lose all those contacts.

How can I go about forming an email list off of these followers? An email list seems like a much more secure database and would be a huge upgrade on my ability to market to these people. Since a limited number of people see my tweets in their timeline, twitter isn't the best option for engagement.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Is there a specific reason why you are concerned that twitter would shut down your account?

    Sure, you could push the users to a landing page that you build and then get them added to your list.

    If you are concerned about your account being shut down, I would suggest that you working on doing that soon, since as you said, there is only a limited number of followers who are going to be seeing your tweets.

    What niche are your 125k followers in? Are those just random people or do they have a certain interest?

    You absolutely should be using that asset to build another asset, your email list!

    In order to collect the emails of those 125k, you are going to need an autoresponder where you can store all the email addresses in. I personally am using Aweber right now and am loving it! You could either use Aweber to build a squeeze page or another tool like Optimize Press or Instabuilder or WP Profit Builder.

    Depending on what interest your followers have, you could give something of value in exchange for their email address, like a PDF Report about a certain topic, an eBook, a video, a cheatsheet etc.

    Once you've got that in place you can make a couple posts per day and promote your squeezepage telling them what they could be getting for free!

    Congratulations on building up so many followers! I encourage you to look at what you're doing that' attracting these people. Then create some kind of a first gift that you can tweet about in different ways, where getting that gift requires signing in to an optin page that gets them on your email list. Then every few tweets say something else about that gift. It's going to take a number of gifts and a whole lot of tweets but if you're persistent, probably you can get a good percentage of your followers onto an email list. It's a leaky bucket though -- you've got to create good content that engages them to stay on your list and keep opening emails. Again, congratulations on your success in building so many followers.     Absolutely,

    If you are concerned then I would get a service like aweber--this is the one I use.

    Get an opt-in page up and offer your followers something and start building that list.
