Best practices for attracting new subscribers?

Hello,

I've been an author and book publisher for quite a while now, and I've had quite a lot of success with social media marketing, blogging, and PPC advertising to sell my books. But I'm new to the world of email marketing. I'm hoping there are people here who can give me advice on how to grow my subscriber list.

So far, I've been buying solo ads and that has helped to a degree. I've also posted links to my opt-in pages on my blog, my company's website, and regularly on Twitter. I was advised to also use forums to drive more traffic, but I've been unsuccessful with this on the writer/author forums I've subscribed to.

What advice do you have for me on the best ways to grow one's subscriber list?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Here's a more specific question related to the above...

Below are my four Opt-In pages that lead to a different set of emails for different types of authors, but that ultimately lead them all back to my website and my educational resources for authors (e.g. books, webinars). In your opinion, which is these is the best Opt-In page and why? Which one (or more) should I focus on driving more traffic to?

Perhaps try offering them something of value to their needs or wants for free. This is an excellent and proven way to get people to subscribe to your list.

I offer free things in the four opt-in pages that I posted above. Which of those four opt-in pages are most attractive, in your opinion? Which one or two should I focus most of my attention on?

    Use Solo Ads but
    KEEP CONSISTENCY.

You cant expect to build your list in one day of 10k subscribers.

Go to a good marketplaces like udimi and clickonomy and stick to solo ads.

I've been doing this. How long did it take you to build your list? And how much attention did you give it daily?

Since you are new to the world of email marketing, I think it would be best if you learn it first. Learn how it works, and how you can use it to best connect with your visitors/prospects. Then, be patient. You can't grow your subscriber list to have additional 5,000 subscribers in a day. Just use the right and appealing opt-in page, make your offers attractive, and send your subscribers will relevant emails regularly.

    Good luck!

Ah! Another Inbox Blueprint Member (I am also one since April 2016).

I honestly do like the first opt-in page!

A tip for the second one: It should always ideally be above the fold, so people don't have to scroll down to opt in!

A tip for the third one: I am not quite sure if the video suits there... it's 3+ minutes that people are distracted and might discourage to opt in...

I would always try to tell them upfront what they are getting. Like: "FREE Report Reveals", FREE Video", just like you did on the book publishing guide!

As for how to get the subscribers: how were your results with solo ads?

Thank you for this really detailed reply. I appreciate it. All good points, especially your point about the video being quite long. I'll rethink that video and try posting a shorter one soon.

I've gotten a few new subscribers from the solo ads, but it's only around a 40% CR. And of the ones who are subscribing, none are buying yet. Then again, I only have 335 subscribers, so maybe that's too small a list to be able to truly judge anything yet.

How is this working for you? What are you doing to grow your subscriber lists? Are you using solo ads, and what have your conversion rates been?

Hi Best Seller. There are a number of ways that you can grow your subscriber list - some of the tactics provide quick wins, and others are longer-term strategies.

A website pop-up that collects people's email addresses is often a quick and easy way to increase the volume of contacts. There's been some debate about whether popovers will affect website rankings, primarily on Google, however it turns out its new rule is just one of thousands of rules that impact search engine visibility. This blog post explains in more detail: https://blog.dotmailer.com/will-goog...lize-popovers/

Another way would be to run a competition/giveaway and promote it via social. This way you're offering up something attractive in return for people's email addresses.

This free guide has 20 more tips for list acquisition: https://resources.dotmailer.com/chea...t=list%20build

    Good luck!

  • You have the right idea with creating your opt-in page, but before you begin implementing any type of email marketing strategies add a little more power to your opt-in pages.

Here's some things that I think will help you...

    1. The Headlines - Your headline has to make a specific group of people really want what you have to offer and that means that it needs to touch on a specific pain point that your audience has. You have to make your offer important to their goal or they will not opt-in.

"Six Questions Indie Authors Never Knew They Had" - What is the pain point or danger of not asking these 6 questions? Find the pain point then rewrite your headlines to speak directly to that pain point.

    2. The Bullet Points - Quality bullet points will help to increase your opt-ins. It builds your subscriber's anticipation, expectations, and motivates them to subscribe. If you want them to move, you have to give them a reason to.

Use this formula for your bullet points:
Feature (of your book) + Benefit (of subscriber) + Advantage

Work on your opt-in pages first (because the traffic won't matter if no one subscribes) then you can start thinking strategy and what type of content you will deliver after subscribers have downloaded your reports.

    Hope this helps!

Depends on how you gauge success. If you want to be rich quick then that adds pressure to everything you are doing and then you do need a certain amount of wizz-bang to your marketing. But really, I think it comes back to the same thing...you need to care about your customers and think as they would...give them something worth visiting your site for and in the long-term they will keep returning.

No matter how it's painted, marketing is not rocket science. If you have a crap product then sure, you need the help of marketing geniuses but the end of the day, you will still have a crap product. My advice, is look to the long game, build things up, cherish the people you already have and care for them, without thinking about who else you can get, that takes your eye off keeping the people you have happy. It will then build up of itself.

So true! I love the way you word this, too. "If there's gold in the river..." Make sure you produce gold for people!
