1.5 m Business Emails | What would You do? Rent them or Sell them?

Hello Warriors,
I hope You are all doing fine

I have a 1.5m from the USA, business oriented buyers, so it is a good list.

What would you do with it, sell it or rent it? or even send offers to it yourself?

I am new to Email Marketing, and would love to know the best way to proceed with this.
Your Input is very valuable and welcomed!

Thank You Warriors

haha, I am a firm believer of selling data, but most people on here are going to tell you to run it yourself and make money that way.

You don't say how you built the list. I'm assuming that you're connected in some way online or offline with each buyer. If so, starting out by testing it in your new circumstance would be wise. That might be by selling it to someone who understands how you built the list and that it's a test and agrees to give you feedback or it might be by mailing yourself.

Just like personal growth begins with small consistent steps based on the asset of you yourself, business growth begins with small consistent steps.

I suggest you make a choice of your direction based on your interests and abilities. Then find a way to test what that might look like in a first tiny step that you can grow from.

Since you say you're new to email marketing, if you choose to mail yourself you might want to start with a very small chunk of that data, perhaps 100 a day so that you find out whether your assumptions about your list being a good list is correct or not.

Yes you've heard it a million times before, the money is in the list, so work your list and do JV's on promo's.

Thank You All for Your comments, and I would like to state that I gathered the list from paid traffic and giving away content about the niche the list is about, which is owning a business.
I want to sell it now, because I am looking for a quick buck at the moment, to be honest, so any directions that way would be awesome.
But if JVs, and self promotion is a profitable way, I'd pursue that road, and any advice would be super appreciated.

    Thank You Guys again!

    Hi Michael,

You might try contacting a list broker, he will be able to tell you what it's worth, find buyers for the list, or purchase the list from you directly.

The value of your list will be determined in part by the specific method used to curate the list.

In most cases a list is worth a lot more to the business that curated the list than to a disassociated/unrelated 3rd party, so bare that in mind when you attempt to sell it.

    HTH,

    Don Burk

This is a tough one to crack.... how did you 'acquire' this list? was it scraped or was it opted into?

Through Opt-Ins (Most of them are Business owners, and all of them are interested in Business Oriented Solutions and payments ..)

    YOU CANT DO ANYTHING!

Cause it seems that u didnt acquire it with an opt in page, but in other ways so it's not CAN-SPAM compliant and you wont have an autoresponder accepting your leads.

      BINGO. NAIL ON THE HEAD.

If you sell it, it's saturating businesses with a sh*tty list. What I mean by this is if the users haven't 'opted-in' to your list so it's detrimental to any business that buys and more specifically, uses that list.

Give us some more info if it's opted in and I'm sure there's some monetization floating around. Otherwise, you've just got a scraped list that probably has spam traps.

It isn't a "spam-list" .. or whatever you think it is.

Just saw it's through paid traffic - my bad.

        Few questions arise for you:

        - How long did it take to build the list of 1.5 million members
        - Have you been actively engaging the list?

That will give you some idea of how valuable the list is, the more 'aged' a list is without engagement - the 'deader' the list is.

I'd recommend keeping the list to yourself and look into solo ad networks to 'rent' the list or send out offers yourself. I definitely wouldn't sell the list. Could drag your name through the mud which is not ideal.

    Hello Warriors,

I represent BulkResponse on this forum.

There is a lot of misconception going on about CAN-SPAM law. Fact is, it legally allows you to make a first contact with your target audience, whether they have OPTIN for your offers or not.

We encourage all our clients to strictly follow CAN SPAM FTC guide lines. You can view them on following link

    http://www.business.ftc.gov/document...guide-business

Bottom line, You have to take care of 4 things

    1. Don't use Fake names. You must use your real name or real Company name

    2. Don't use Deceptive Subject line. The subject line must be in connection with email body

    3. You must include your real physical address inside your message

    4. Provide Opt Out links and honor opt out requests

There is no mention of Optin, Double Optin or Confirmed Optin in on the FTC website.

Now lets come to email list import part.

Law does not prohibit you to import your lists to a 3rd party service provider.

Actually, All major bulk email services (mailchimp, aweber, icontact) allow you to import lists. We are different in a sense that we do not require re-optin

This is the bit that confuses me!

It is most annoying to receive uninvited emails in my inbox especially seeing that I never opted in (consented to you having and using my email address) so why click 'opt out' if never personally opted in? That's if there is an opt out link included - some unsolicited emails I've seen have none!!

There is no mention of Optin, Double Optin or Confirmed Optin in on the FTC website
Find this a most confusing type of 'protection' against unwanted/not requested email arriving in an inbox!

Exactly, I just read a 10 point thing on Can_spam and you can use a bought or scrapped list like you said if it's first contact and also you have an unsuscribe.

        you have an unsuscribe.
        Hi David

My confusion is, if I personally didnt 'subscribe' in the first place why imply can 'unsubscribe' ?

This particular type of practice (scrapping) makes a mockery of the official subscribe procedure in my view

If you took the time to build an opt-in list it os potentially very valuable and may serve you best by using it to build a business for yourself by offering your own products or charging others for access. Send a survey to the list asking the recipients what type of content they are most interested in to get a feel for the subscribers. Segment the list and send relevant content and informative content. Ofcourse you could sell the data if you don't have the stomach for the email marketing grind. Good luck.

Michael, I have a solution for you, bud.

Why don't you send the list over to me and I'll test it out
with some of my offer, LOLOL!

    1.5M! Wow!

A couple of obvious questions that come to mind,
that other saavy email marketers on this post have already stated:

    - What kind of offers attracted the optin?
    - How old is the list?
    - Is it still growing and how fast?

These are the basic characteristics of a list that I choose to know.

If I were in your shoes, given that I'm not just trying to sell this traffic ;-)
I would monetize it by establishing a good "business" relationship
with them, letting them know that I will be a professional resource
that will offer them valuable information.

I'd expect to lose some, but whoever I keep, watch out!

I would monetize them to shreds, LOL.

Ok, I think you got what I'm saying.

Great luck to you! Thanks for posting that!

You can test parts of the list. One part would be just email them as it is. Another part I would do a new opt in and clean it, so that you end up with legitimate buyers. Then test your results. Good Luck.
