Selling Email Marketing

I've got 2 proposals to put together for local businesses that want email marketing but I've never offered it until now so I'm scrambling to figure out the best approach to offering this svc.

I'm assuming I can just use my mailchimp acct. or would it be better to setup an acct for each client?

They both will be offering a download in exchange for an email address on their website and then will need a few different email sequences set up. They also both have small lists of a few hundred.

I'm trying to figure out pricing as well. I assume most people charge a setup fee and monthly based on how big the list, how many messages the client wants to send and who will write the messages (client or me). Any directions is appreciated.

What a few of my buddies in the email marketing game do is setup an account for each client that they maintain.

End of the day, the data captured (email lists, emails sent out, emails in general) are all owned by the client. What you're facilitating is the initial setup + building out the automation (behavioural)+ ongoing emails (newsletters).

The initial verification email is default in mailchimp, you can't avoid that. But you'll need to setup an autoresponse / welcome email which would have the download link in that email.

Is userflow going to be like:

if user submits email, open new tab with download

    or

if user submits email, verifies, download link in welcome email

Going down the first route, they would save a bucket load on autoreponse email volume. Going down the second route however, encourages the behaviour for their lists to open your clients emails. Catch 22 really..

Regardless of the above, it becomes less of how big is your client's list and more of what do you need done with:

    - building the email capture forms
    - building automation of welcome message with download (highly recommend setting up a tracking link in the email so they can get an understanding of how many times their downloads have been downloaded)

    Extra stuff you can do:
    - learning behavioural components of their lists
    - building retention campaigns
    - ensuring they aren't being hit by spam filters
    - developing new strategies to reduce overheads/costs

Costs wise on what you should charge depends on which route you take (new tab with download page or autoresponse email). I'd hazard to say that if you're they brains behind their copywriting, you'd charge on a per email basis (really depends on how intense this gets.. if it's custom HTML or using MailChimp's email builder. I've seen people charge anywhere between $50USD/email to $500USD/email... which is more like $2000USD/month to groom and maintain their email marketing).

If they're writing the copy, then they'll have to learn how to MailChimp and this is where I wouldn't charge the monthly ongoing. They'll have to learn how to maintain the list, and if they don't know how to - that's where you can precharge them with what I call a "service bucket". They prepay 10 hours of support that gets dug into everytime they need help.

Hope this helps! If you have any questions feel free to send them my way too.

Definitely agree with creating an account per client. You want the recipients to see your clients domain and you want to build up your clients domain over time.
